I normally load .41 mag using Berry 210 grain plated bullets and 8.2 grains of Unique. I shoot these in either a Blackhawk 6.5", Redhawk 5.5" or 7.5", or Super Blackhawk 7.5". Thinking about trying some hard cast lead bullets, and I've seen that there are a lot of companies making the lead bullets. I'm not planning on pushing the lead bullets any faster than I do the plated bulets. Just looking for an accurate mild load to punch holes in paper.

I'd appreciate any suggestions or comments about which lead bullet company to go with. What can I do to prevent leading, or is leading a concern on the lower speed loads? I only shoot outdoors, so indoor range rules barring lead bullets are not a concern.

I was using Dardas bullets last year. Was very happy with them. Had a small amount of leading with them in 9mm. I was using mid range loads. Accuracy was good. I have been reading that some powders are more prone to leading than others with cast. I have switched to plated bullets for now. Leading was not the main reason. I might switch from Titegroup and try cast again. I like the money saving of cast, but don't like the look (I know, shouldn't be a factor), and I didn't like the gunk left in the gun from the residue of the lube. My understanding is that leading increases when you push them too fast.

Most important aspect of shooting cast bullets is fit. Slug the barrels and cylinder throats of your guns to find out exactly what you're dealing with. Size (or purchase) bullets the same size as your cylinder throats (ie., My Ruger SBH has .430" throats so I use .431" bullets in it, my Dan Wesson has .430" throats so I use .430" in that gun, and my Puma has a groove diameter of .432"-.433" so the bullets I use in it go .433"+).

My favorite cast bullet mfg. is Beartooth Bulletshttp://www.beartoothbullets.com/. They make a quality bullet with good lube, available in several diameters per caliber. Google "cast bullet manufacturers" and you'll get a lot of hits...
