Today is the Fourth of July. What's your position on this?
Look it up. The Continental Congress voted for independence on July 2nd. The Declaration was adopted on the 4th.

Though never formally presented to the king, he became aware of it in August.

Heck, if you think about it, we weren't and independent nation until September 3, 1783. So really, that's the day we should celebrate.

Look it up. They didn't actually all get together to sign the document until August 2. ;)
Oh we could go on and on about the timing of our nation's birth. But we didn't begin to form a single entity, and a loose one at that, until the Articles of Confederation was adopted.
It wasn't perfect , first attempts at something new usually aren't. But it was a step on the road to the US Constitution. Itself not perfect but amendable so as to continue to serve as we grew and changed as a nation.

True. The Articles really did all the early legwork in establishing how the country should be formed and operated, leading up to the creation of the Constitution adopted in I believe, 1789. It certainly wasn't an overnight process, but they tried very hard to do the thing correctly.

And yet today we celebrate July 4 as our "birthday" even if a little prematurely. 😁 😁
