I said Happy Birthday to an engineer that works with me this morning and he looked at me like I was an idiot. I said you must not have been a very good Marine. He laughed and said he forgot. I didn’t think Devil Dogs forgot the Birthday of the Corps!
Anyway, happy 250th to all that served or still eating dirt out there. Especially you @tarbe one of the best I have known!

I served in the Corps 6/64 - 3/68, Vietnam 7/65 - 3/67. Back then there were a few WW II and pre-WW II Marines still on active duty. The old salts often said/complained the 1960's Corps was not like the pre-WW II and WW II "Old Corps." Later, I heard this ditty and often think of it, my experiences, and those I served with:
The Old Corps!
The Old Corps, the Old Corps, the Old Corps
That’s all I ever heard about!
But as Tun’s fist Marine sneered when the second appeared
“It’s not like it was back in the Old Corps!”

Happy Birthday Marines. If it weren’t for WWII and the USMC, I wouldn’t be here. Both my parents met at Camp Lejeune. USMC and USMCWR.
Just was thinking about it and the only Marine in my family was my uncle, George Archibald Marine. That Marine was truly a Marine.

I knew a Sgt Major Marine. I believe it was on Camp Lejeune in the early '80's. Could that have been him?

I asked my mother what they called female Marines back in the day. The Army has WACS, Navy had WAVES, Air Corps had WAFS. What the heck are women USMCWR called? She hesitated , then sheepishly replies BAMS. Big A** Marines!
