Hi,
After seeing the movie and not knowing how fictionalized it was, I read Gen. Moore's book. It was quite an eye opener when comparing his stories and accounts to those we got in the papers every morning and on TV every evening back then. May you rest in peace, General, with thanks from all of us.

General Moore was a Post Commander of mine at one time, and I had no idea who he was, or how famous he was, until I saw the movie.

On TV news, I've seen several guys with stars on their epaulets and their left chest covered with ribbons..... but there is no CIB sitting above all those ribbons. One never truly understands what it's all about until you've been in harm's way. This man was the real deal. I wish the Big Red One had a few like him when I was over there - the two Batallion COs that I served under during my tour couldn't hold a candle to this man.

Even though I have seen "We Were Soldiers" a few times I watched it again last night to honor General Moore.
Don't know if you Guys are aware that the Helo Pilot "Snake/Snakesh*it received the MOH.
Son met him at one of his Military functions.
Bruce Perry Crandall (born February 17, 1933) is a retired U.S. Army officer who received the Medal of Honor for his actions as a pilot during the Battle of Ia Drang on November 14, 1965 in South Vietnam. During the battle, he flew 22 missions in an unarmed helicopter into enemy fire to evacuate more than 70 wounded and bring ammunition and supplies to US forces. By the end of the Vietnam War, he had flown more than 900 combat missions.
