Went to my LGS to see if the SR40c in stainless I ordered came in. I look around & spotted it. Upon close inspection I counted five pretty fair scratches in different places on the slide. I felt like I was being too anal but I had to turn it down after thanking my gun guy for getting it for me. He was cool about it, but I still felt kinda bad about the whole deal. Am I wrong in thinking a new gun ought not look like that?

I'd have done the same. Mines stainless as well. Not that scratches are ever a good thing but people buy the stainless version because they like the way it looks. Some scoff at the idea, but looks are important to me in a gun. If I don't like the way it looks, I ain't buying it simple as that.

Shame it came like that, I haven't heard or read about scratches before. So what are you going to do now? Wait on another or are you looking at other guns?

Thank's Folks, I don"t feel so bad now. I have a SR9c in blue & it's a keeper. Am I looking at other guns? Darn good question. I wanted that .40 because I can shoot lead out of it & because the nine impressed me so much. Do the xd's have standard rifleing? I'm going to have to ponder this some-Dave

On stainless, they are easy to remove but you shouldn't have to do it fresh from the box. In use scratches happen, it's part of life. WD-40 and Scotch Brite in the dirrection of the grain seems to work well.

It's only going to be unscratched for a bit, I'd rather make the scratches myself. Besides, aren't scratches supposed to be on used guns? Then it is ok, in my book.

Don't mind the scratches once I make them.

And a lot of times the pressure is off once the first scratch happens.

Your paying for new, new you should get.

yes the xd's have standard rifleing and you can shoot lead out of it. If you still feel a wee bit bad for turning it down offer to buy the gun at a used gun price to account for the scratches if he turns your offer down you are off the hook if he accepts your offer you get a great gun for a good price win win
