Gunsite Scout Rifle question

I'm probably just wishful thinking here, but couldn't find the info on Ruger's website. I'm interested in one of the Gunsite Scout rifles in .308 - do they take their own proprietary magazine? My wishful thinking is hoping they used AR-10/DPMS compatible mags or even M1-A mags.
Thanks for any help.

The Ruger Gunsite scout will not accept AR-10 or M1-A types magazines. I don't believe the magazines are proprietary to Ruger, but IIRC they are Accuracy International magazines.

That is correct, they are indeed AI magazines.

I have some 10 round metal Ruger mags, they're side stamped "Accurate Mag" and are AICS style. I got them slightly used for $39.99 each which isn't a heck of alot more than good M1A mags, is a bit more than the DPMS style poly and metal AR 10. The GSR is a great little rifle though, and Ruger poly mags are reasonably priced, especially the 5 rounders.

The $75 factory (AI) mag works fine. The $35 Ruger poly mags are ok for the range and just goofing around, but I don't trust them in the field as they wobble around too much for my liking.
My preferred mags come from Alpha Industries. Their 10 round mags cost $62, are made of stainless steel and are black Teflon coated....plus they are shorter than either the factory or the poly mags. I have several, I will be buying a few more as funds allow.

Here is a photo showing left to right, the factory(AI), Ruger Poly and Alpha mags. Each of these holds 10 rounds.

The Ruger poly mags fit tight in my rifle and I actually prefer them over the steel ones. I have used the poly mags on hunting trips without any issues. The steel mags are pretty pricey IMO so I only have a few of them.

I must order some of these! Thank you!

Personally, I think that Ruger missed the boat by not incorporating a Mauser-type stripper clip guide into their rendition of Col. Cooper's brainchild. Had they done so, the price of just one of them $75 mags coulda/woulda bought a crap-load of old Mauser strippers instead....and....the rifle would still be just as fast to reload....plus, you'd be able to easily top-off the existing mag at any time without having to remove it from the gun first.

Just a thought.

Glad to see Magpul is making poly mags for the Scout.

After I purchased my .308 Scout, which came with a 10-round steel mag, I purchased Ruger 3- and 5-round poly mags. They fit snugger than the Ruger Steel mag and are a lot quieter.
