I was surfboard and sunglasses in '66. First time I saw the movie I found myself saying the words AS he was saying them. Heard all that firsthand.

He was also great as Sergeant Loyce in the movie the Boys in Company C as another Vietnam War drill instructor which is also on the same You Tube page.

Hi,

I suppose I may be the last person on the planet to realize R. Lee Ermey was a real DI in the Marines before distinguished service in other venues, including Viet Nam. In learning that, I also found he retired as a Staff Sergeant, and his promotion to Gunnery Sgt, an honorarium from the Corps, has been reported to be the first post retirement promotion ever granted by the USMC. Great guy!
