Hi
Hopefully someone can clarify this for me. I wanted Ruger compact magnum in 308 but they are now discontinued. I like the GRS but not the mag so much because that is where I like to hold the rifle when I carry it. Now they have the Guide gun but not in 308 and they all look to be built on the long action. I guess my question is did Ruger build the Guide rifle in 300 RSM on the long action and why?
I thought the reason for the 300 RSM was so it could be built on the Med. length actions and if its is built on the med action why no 308? All the Guide Guns spec. out the same length and weight. Seems like if your going to use a long action you might as well stick with the 300 win. mag. because of ammo availability.
Thanks in advance.
I would still like one in 308.

BendBlade, you have apparently been reading the Ruger specs on the website or other source. The guide guns in 300 and 338 RCM are built on the short action designed for the short magnum cartridges.. I suggest you contact Ruger on their website and ask them directly. You can't fully trust anything they print as factual due to editing and lack of knowledge. With that said, have you tried handling a scout rifle with the 3 round magazine in place, it fits flush with the bottom of the rifle. I acquired my 308 CM when they were still available, so I feel your pain. Bob!! :)

Thanks Single-sixer Ruger's spec sheet just wasn't making any sense to me. I take it you like your 308CM.

BentBlade, I do like the 308CM and I have a CM in 338 RCM, both on the short action. The guide gun is basically the CM with a threaded muzzle and a laminated stock with SS metal. Bob!! :)

Rutgers website lists the .300 & .338 compact mag's as being 1/2 inch shorter OAL, which shows they took some pains to get it right. The pics are the same for all calibers, which is misleading.
