The panty hose "tube" isn't the best type to use. They can have issues getting hung up in the hose,, trying to slide out.
You also have to seal all other POTENTIAL openings first. Otherwise they can just move to another gap/crack/hole etc.
I use a variety of plastic tubes,, that all can be modified to fit over whatever opening I find. From cracks, to slats, to round holes. I can cut & shape the tubes. I use old, empty silicone caulking tubes that I've cleaned out the dried silicone from the inside. I cut off the nozzle end,,, and have a nice plastic tube I can modify to fit the opening.
I also have several other types of tubes to be used according to the place I need to evict them from.

PRO TIP;
Upon finding droppings,, if you are unsure if they are bat or mice,, do the following. Get a pair of good gloves. I use leather ones. Pick up a few of the droppings. Place them in the palm of a gloved hand. Using a gloved finger,, crush up the droppings.
If it remains dull & brown/blackish looking,, it's mice. But if you see little pieces of glitter,, it's bat.

Now,, the dangers of guano. A few pieces or a small amount will not be a health hazard,, if you in a well ventilated space,, such as outdoors. And if the guano is already outdoors,, it's subjected to sun, rain etc & the micro-organisms do not survive in that environment. BUT,,,,,,,,,, inside a wall, attic, gable vent space,,, do not disturb it because of them.
