Got Dumped on...

I know you 'up north' folks laugh at us down here but we here in Greenville S.C. got some snow yesterday. It's been a couple of years since we had any real freezing precipitation... and then last weekend we got a couple inches of sleet that then over the next two days turned into 1-2" of solid ice... that of course all but melted off of the roads but not in the yards.. then yesterday, Saturday early morning, it started to snow.... we got something like 4-5" I think over the next 6 hours and now there is no real sign of it melting... low of 14 this morning... they are calling for a high today of 32 and then down to 12 tonight.... I did go outside and tried to move some of this mess around.... but yesterday I fell down our outside steps and this kind of told me I really need to just stay inside.... you can walk on the snow of course but the inch to 2 inches of ice under it is what is a mother.....

Waiting for the treated lumber we used to reframe our new front porch to dry out enough to paint it before we screen it and so the snow blew in a good bit yesterday and I ended up sweeping it all off... Here's a picture from the 180 degree security camera I installed last week.

Twenty inches of snow here in the last week. Single digit temps every morning and -6° yesterday at 7:19am. This is a bit chilly for Connecticut.

We had approx 5" sleet in SW Ark. Over 100 Poultry houses collapsed. Numerous Marina's collapsed. Roads were a total disaster and lots rural rds still are. I hav never seen a winter storm like this with so much sleet

When we lived in Simpsonville (Brentwood) years ago we had one cold winter. The heat pump in our rental couldn't keep up even with the help of the "backup auxiliary heaters". We borrowed a kerosene heater to keep the place livable and preventing pipe freezing.

We were fortunate in that our little place was "slab on grade" construction and thus didn't have the more common crawl space. At least the floors didn't get seriously cold.

In SLC, Utah @6:45 PM February 1st it is 47 degrees F. no snow. Received a total of 2inch since last year! Crazy year.

I'm just a bit north of Blume,, but my 2 sons are not too far from him in Seneca, and Six-Mile. They too have similar conditions as he does.
Up here,, we got about 7" of snow on top of the ice that hasn't melted in many places. But,, I'm just fine,, and this stuff doesn't bother me. I drove out to my range,, fed my cats over there yesterday & today. No problems.
My youngest was trying to clear his driveway because it has a hill, and a sharp curve to get in & out of. The other one lives in town, and is on flat ground.

We got clear skies and sunshine during the day, but it still barely broke above freezing. 10:30 last night on my way home It said it was 25 - way too cold for me.

Oddly enough the street in front of our house was clear by about noon yesterday... used to take 4-6 days for it to thaw out even in moderate weather but I think Helene changed things....

It wasn't Helene as much as it was the fact that this snow was a "light, fluffy" type, and melted quicker. Much of our snow here went away yesterday in the direct sunshine. Plus,, the road scrapers moved enough to where the roads got clear & dry in a lot of places. But if the roads weren't scraped,, and got driven on,, shaded,,, well,, they are still iced over.

I grew up on a cattle farm outside Greenville, SC. In 60's
We would have 5-6' drifts blown up against the front door

Now live in SW Mo. We got close to 8" last week

All the cold reports I'm seeing makes us Floridians look like a bunch of crybabies!

I remember springtime temperatures of the high 40's and low 50's in the Catskills feeling WARM and wearing a skinny shirt.

whats with all you guy's stealing our weather!!!! I went to sleep with the cabin door open because it got so hot in here... I let the fire go out and have been sleeping all night without having to get up and tend the fire.. (that part is nice).. I woke up to +35, and was walking around the cabin barefoot.... I built a fire, and it was toasty in minutes..
It's supposed to be warm for a week... That's not good here.. we really need the colder temps... it might sound weird but it's true... I have to make a freight run this week and I'm really hoping the river hasn't started to open up..... I've got jalapeno cheetos and ice cream on my shopping list!!!
