Grips ~ 1860 Army vs Super Blackhawk

On another forum there was a step-by-step article describing and showing adapting the trigger guard and backstrap from a Colt 1860 Army (replica) to a Ruger Blackhawk. I handled an original 1860 today and I'm very interested. Does anybody have the ability to compare the grips of a Super Blackhawk dragoon style grip frame to the grip of an 1860 Colt?

I am intrigued, to say the least.

This is information I would certainly be interested in. The older grips fit my hand phenomenally better than the blackhawk or vaquero grips. I want this on a couple of mine.

Where did you see this?

I've got a 1851 that I can compare if I get the time at home.

The 1860 Army grip is basically an elongated 1851 Navy grip. Just like the Super Blackhawk is an elongated XR3-RED. Which basically just has more room behind the triggerguard. In short, the 1860 is going to be comparable to an XR3 with another 1/4" to 3/8" of length. So if you REALLY wanted the 1860 profile on your Ruger, you could have Jack Huntington do his grip frame extension with an XR3.
