You might want to be a mite more specific. Who autographed/wrote the book, and what is it about? Western stories about gunfighters, guns, or towns? Cattle drives?

Thanks Doc, in my excitement I forgot to elaborate. Read a recent article in American Handgunner on the .357 Atomic. Remembered the book being mentioned on here some years back. Went on Ebay & bought it. Didn’t realize I was purchasing directly from one of the Authors Jim Hoobler. It came autographed & with a handwritten note & business card. Very nice guy, made my day-Dave

The Great Western/Hy Hunter/Hawes story is an interesting story!

Hy Hunter himself was................unique.

Have always been interested in whether Hawes firearms were a continuation of the Great Western firearms.

From what little I’ve read of the book so far I’d say no. One of the employees said it was a piece of junk in a letter to the author

I had a Hawes, and am very sorry I sold it, when needing money! The grips were nicely done rosewood!

Yes, my Hawes Chief Marshal has very nice "rosewood" grips, but otherwise, it shoots loose after a couple dozen rounds. Literally the screws start backing out. Then something broke inside and it can't be cocked. Hammer comes part way back and it freezes up. Junk!

Once had am old Hawes .44 mag that also "shot loose" , and the cylinder base pin would work loose very easily. Swapped it as soon as I could.
