Great for shooting in the desert.

Monday morn and I invited my next door neighbor to go out shooting in the desert with me. He is a former guard in Guatamala and has only handled a pump action which he prefers. We went out to a desert spot where we could shoot my S&W M&P Sport II AR-15, my Benelli M-2 Tactical 12 Ga. and my BHP C-77 9 mm. We were out there for 2 1/2 hours and had lots of fun, shooting at some bowling pins and a few other junk targets that others had left behind. Naturally he enjoyed the shotgun, but still prefers pumping one. I was also surprised as I had heard that several other people had problems with shooting light loads in an M-2 and that it would not cycle, but since I bought a case of light loads because of my shoulder being sore. We fired a box and every round recycled properly. Very happy about that. Last night, I tried out my red dot sight and it worked fine. This morn, it would not turn on or I just could not get it to turn on. Checking on it later today. My neighbor liked the AR and blasted the bowling pins very quickly. As usual I enjoyed shooting my BHP, for a variety of reasons. It is a great pistol, ergonomically sound with 13 + 1 rounds is more than sufficient for me. My neighbor made the mistake of putting his left hand over the right, thumb over thumb and naturally the hammer bit him and drew blood. I was surprised until he showed me how he was holding it. I corrected him and he did better, but for some reason I got a bite on the web of my shooting hand too, but not for the same reason. I had changed out the original hammer for a C&S skeletonized one which was suppose to prevent the hammer bite. Will have to check out what is going on there as it never did that before. As usual, I took out a large bucket with me and a long handled "grabber" to pick up brass and shells. Since I was last out there, there have been about a half dozen shotgun shooters and they left their shells, strangely enough in groups around, that looked like a campfire. I picked up enough to fill up the bucket, but I should have taken out another bucket or two. Shotgun shells are not that hard to clean up. Well, we had fun before the really cold weather comes into the area. I hope you all get the opportunity to do the same. Good shootin' and STAY SAFE!

Sounds like a lot of fun. Everytime I see pics or video of the western US desert I think of how much fun it would be to shoot there. Having a long range bolt gun along would be icing on the cake for me.

M2 Benelli potential problems quickly got my attention, glad yours passed the test, but raises questions as I'm a Benelli fan, self appointed shotgun function problem troubleshooter. How light for the shells that your gun functioned well with, as well as brand? Seems like these days some folks are wanting to shoot lighter & lighter stuff that really doesn't have a place in a tactical type shotgun, much less an auto.
And then, there's some really junk shells out there as well,,, mfr's just keep cheapening the stuff.

Gunzo, I bought my M2 because at the time, I could not find an FN SLP in town. I happened to be in a LGS and the M2 looked similar, so I asked to look at it. I lucked out as it was very similar. Short barreled semi-auto good for HD. It was a Benelli, but my mother always always said to buy quality!
I happened to be at the Sportsmen's Warehouse in Reno and they had a pallet of cases on sale. They were Winchester Super-Target, Light Target Load, 12 ga. 2 3/4", 1 1/8 oz, 7 1/2 shot, 1145 Velocity.
Like I said, I had no probs. The only modification to my M2 is a TTI Flat Lifter, which I don't think has anything to do with feeding/ejecting. Oh, I also installed a Tru lock Crio Tactical Breeching Choke (DO NOT SHOOT SLUGS!!!). I do not plan on breeching any doors, nor impaling any zombies, it just looks bad ass!

Most of the better dot optics will run thousands of hours even on high. I know a guy who has one on his bedroom shotgun and set on the lowest illumination, he never turns it off--just changes the battery once a year.

True. But the El Cheapo model I started out with wasn’t that way.

A Combat shotgun not cycling light target loads isn't an issue. It not made to shoot light targets. My Mossberg 935 won't cycle them either. It's made for Turkey and Goose hunting. It's made to cycle 3&3 1/2" shells. Combat shotguns are made to cycle Stopper rounds for large threats not clay pigeons. Most will eventually loosen up a bit once thoroughly broken in. My Bullpup Shotgun wouldn't cycle target loads when new. After a 500 slug torture test and a good cleaning it cycles them fine now.

Well KIR, that just goes to show just how good an M2 is. I've seen Win ST's cause a lot of problems. The only one worse, were the hopefully discontinued Win Super Speeds.
