My wife has that model, except not ported, and with the factory grips. Nice classic revolver, and very popular. Simple and to the point.

For a while, some of the Navy folks that like to jump into water carrying guns, packed stainless S&W .357's. They were one of the first options that fullfil that role reasonably well.

My model 60 is 1 7/8" barrel, fixed sights. 357mag. I carry it quite frequently. In over 20 years of carry, it's not failed to go bang when I wanted it to go bang (and never gong bang when I didn't want it to go bang).

Exactly! Of all my guns, this one gets carried afield most in a custom Mitch Rosen sharkskin. I think Rosen went mass production; they sure were reluctant to make me a new custom a couple years ago. I fell in love with the light pipe sight on the newer .22 mod317 so I put one on the .357. I love the rapid, 2-eyed acquisition with that green pipe.

I replaced it for discreet carry with a M&P 340. With concealment not so much an issue I made some beefier grips to tame the recoil.

I have a fondness for the 3" J-frames, Have a couple.
Perfect walkabout guns, from snake shot to heavy solids. They make great meat-getters and are formidable enough even for the 160# cougar slinking don the trail behind you...
And for social work, they have the advantage of taking your empties with you...
