Good bye Glock G19, Hello Ruger P95.

I had a KP95 back in the late '90's and it was a pretty decent gun. Well, looks like I'm getting back into a P95(blue this time not stainless) in trade for my Glock G19 RTF2. I got the Glock set up just like I want it, love it, great carry gun and with the +2 mag bottoms I get 17+1 BUT taxes on the house are coming due and being unemployed I had to do something so I ended up trading the Glock for a Ruger P95 and some cash.
I already know it'll be as good gun that'll work out well for home defense even if it will be a bit larger to carry for CCW but at least I'm not going to be gunless or have junk, I'll still have something that I trust and that I know will work when called upon.
Looks like I'll be spending more time around here after I do the trade on Sunday afternoon. LOL. I just hope that CDNN still has some mags in stock. :wink:

The P95 is STILL the best value in a service-size 9mm pistol.

I think you'll get along just fine.

If it shoots as well as the KP95 that I had I know we will.
If memory servers it didn't pack to badly in an IWB holster. I'll probably have to run to Muddy Pond(local Mennonite community just North of us) and pick up some 10oz Oak Tanned leather to make up an IWB holster for it if the one I already have won't fit the Ruger.
If I knew I could really trust the guy not to back out of the deal I'd order the mags tonight rather then wait until Sunday afternoon but you just never can tell about some folks and my wife would be mad as a wet hen if I ordered something then didn't have the money to pay for it. :mrgreen:

I spend $550 on each a Beretta PX4 Storm and CZ 75BD that do not shoot any better than my old P95. I have a bunch of guns that don't beat the accuracy and reliability of that old Ruger. I had to spend $1000 on a Sig 1911 to beat the 7 yard accuracy (and only by a quarter of an inch!). I have 29 handguns and the P95 is among the last I would trade or sell. Rugers customer service helps quite a bit as well.

I carried a Glock 19 when I was a deputy, it was and is a great gun. Currently it is a safe queen, I have shot it once in the last seven years. My Ruger KP95 is my primary self defence gun. I have always shot it better than the Glock. I have owned and have been to the armorer courses for just about all the major companies but I still go to the P95.

I really love how simple the Glocks are to detail strip. One little punch and you can pull the entire gun apart. Never detail stripped a P-Series Ruger before so I can't say how hard or easy they are.
Either way for a "cheap" semi you can't beat a Ruger P-Series pistol, especially the P95 and they're one of the few semi autos you can still get mags for. I just can't find any Glock mags at normal prices but CDNN still has the Mec-Gar 17 round mags for the 9x19mm Rugers. I'm going to order at least 3 and if funds allow maybe as many as 6 of em'. That way I'll have em' on hand.

p-95 isn't cheap. it is inexpensive. the p series and the sr series rugers are the best dollar for dollar value in the firearms industry. so good in fact that i prefer them to weapons i own costing twice as much. i have also given as gifts to family members 2 p95's, one p89, 3 sr9's, one each p345 and lc9. i give gifts that i believe in and trust 100%. my three favorite weapons currently are the three calibers in the sr series, i gave away my last 95, and am thinking about another. it would look good next to the p85 i bought when they first were introduced. it is also a favorite, never in all these years has it malfunctioned. not once, and it is more accurate than am i. my more "expensive" weapons sit in pistol pillows in the safe, the rugers are used, valued, carried, and appreciated.

Love my P95. Better pistol than given credit for. But, that could be said for all the Ruger P's and, really, the SR's too. Odd how that carried over to the next generation.

Might just pickup a number of those 17 round Mecgars and stick them away.

Thank you for setting me straight on that matter. LOL, yep, that's what I meant, it's Inexpensive but built like a tank and works as well as anything else out there at half the price of most of the other semi autos. :mrgreen:

I would agree. For most people, it is all they would ever need. So, if given the parameter of "just one", it could fill that need well.

"Want" is another thing all together.

The P95 is a very good pistol...but it doesn't fit my small hands as well as the SR series, or other, smaller guns. I see them on occasion in the shops, and the price on them sure makes me want to get one...but they just don't grip well for me.

Count me among the "P" series devotees. I have several and will part with none of them. The best value in handguns period.

Well, did the deal yesterday, got the pistol home and pulled it apart. Polished up the feed ramp, took of a couple sharp edges with some 800 grit and lubed it up so it's ready to test fire later today.
Looks like Ruger has really improved the grip with the texture on the newer ones. I remember having to use some skate board tape on my old KP95 front and rear to get a good gripping surface but this newer model(Gen2 I guess they're calling em'.) really is nice.
If it shoots as well as it looks I'll really have a winner.
Also, the IWB holster that I made up for the Glock G19 also fits the P95 so I can use it for CCW for now. Still like to try and find a Blackhawk CQC Sportster non-retention paddle holster for it but from what I've read the newer models with the rail won't fit into holsters for the older non-rail models so I'll have to look around.
Anyway, so far I'm pretty happy with the trade. :mrgreen:
