About a month ago I bought a NIB .480 SRH that a guy had bought on pre-order when Ruger introduced them in 2001. Until I received it, the gun had been unfired and was kept in a climate controlled safe.

I did a quick inspection of the gun when I received it then took it to the range to try it out. It shot well but the trigger needed some work.

So yesterday evening I managed to scrape together some free time and went down to my bench to give the internals a good once over and possibly slick up the trigger a bit. During reassembly after I put the crane and cylinder in the gun I am turning the cylinder by hand and feel a definite drag at one spot in the rotation. The cylinder spins freely on the crane however when it is in the gun it drags on one spot. There is no interference between the forcing cone and the cylinder. The only spot I can see where there is any contact is between the ratchet on the back of the cylinder and the frame. Due to the marks made by the ratchet when firing the gun I can't see where the interference is. The drag is significant enough that it definitely effects the trigger pull.

Son of a B. I guess this gun is headed back to Ruger.

I feel your pain :D A few times I have sent fishing reels and rifles (with a baggie full of parts) back to the manufacturers after a cleaning or quick stoning 8)
