Please forgive me if I seem unpatriotic or downright grumpy, but I am so glad the 4th of July holiday is concluded.

Working in a busy pediatric ER the 4th is a holiday I dread more than most.

Between the near drownings, the fireworks injuries, (we had some very unusual ones this year) the auto/pedestrian and plain old motor vehicle crashes, and even had a couple of gunshot wounds, I'm worn out.

I don't know if it's because I'm older or if this year was really worse than previous holidays it really seemed like we were going non-stop the whole weekend.

Again, sorry to appear so grumpy, but I hate seeing so many children being hurt.

working any holidaze in an ER, funniest I have seen, roman candle ball hit between a fat guy's thighs with shorts on, funny because of how he was walking when he came in the door, that had to hurt bad for a long time.
Worst, unsupervised kids visiting a farm 4th BBQ and went out climbing on an old Gleaner combine out on the back lot, they were trying to spin the reel on the header and one of them fell and his hand and arm went between two old rusted up cutter bar teeth on the header, he lost two fingers and almost bled to death, probably 2500 stitches involved.
Boat prop cuts, off road vehicle rollover, kids playing with firecrackers and gas on a big mud puddle, real lucky it was only 1st & second degree splatter burn spots on them, bunch of heat stress, heart attacks, diabetic issues, one time about twenty people came in for wasp stings after a pop bottle rocket fired under a picnic pavilion at a state park hit a big paper wasp nest and rained down mad wasp on a bunch of older folks sitting at a big banquet table.

Thanks pawncop, we need more like you. Some people are dedicated to their profession, work long hours and treat the injured so that the rest of us can get drunk, act stupid, and hurt ourselves.

I used to work a night shift (3PM-11PM) and on the 4th of July there would be so much fireworks and gunfire around our plant you would have thought it was a war zone.

know what you mean used to have to work ALL the holidays, and when on the fire department , was the worst of them.....
see on the news, some dude ( for the lack of good words) set off some ordnance on the top of his head........wow, the gene pool has gone down a bit.........duh

Yes but July 4th they happen en masse. You could not pay me enough to work an ER around July 4th.

The guy with the mortar on his head, apparently it was a dud. When it didn't go off he thought it would be funny to walk around with it on his head, then it exploded.

No apologies needed Pawncop. I can't imagine the chaos at the hospital on Independence day.

Here's the guy who thought firing a mortar from the top of his head would be a good idea. He's dressed for Halloween.

That is actually a photo of him when he worked for Disney. He played the character Gaston from Beauty and the Beast. Seemed like a good hearted kid from what I can tell. The biggest in the bunch who stood up for others.

I'm sick and tired of them going off for DAYS before and after.
