Well now. I don't consider myself a "knife person", but once in a while I spy a knife that I ought to have.

Here's a run of the mill Gerber, and I think it's quite handsome. I'll bet it would do a good job of cutting kindling. It's heavy. :mrgreen:

Ahhhh... The "coffin" Bowie. I like. That one, and a Cold Steel blade in the same class, always interested me. Looks like your all set to set in on a poker game with the Earp brothers, or pan for gold in the Blackhills, or take a mule train over the divide,etc..

Roughly guessing, I'd say about 1900, knives become bad things, that only bad people would use on another. Why ? I don't know. For me, another tool that I hope to never use on another. It's an option though. Stay safe folks.

It's a good knife, Wayne - if a trifle long for my taste (I once had both that Greber and a Cold Steel Trailmaster).

I've found out that, for me, knives with blades that long are best carried on the side of my daypack/haversack.

I agree it's a bit long, too. Don't know why I buy stuff like this, other than I think they're gorgeous. For an actual purpose, I consider it very utility, not unlike a very sharp combination of meat cleaver, hatchet and machete.
