General idea of value for this rifle?

Helping a friend sell a gun, I'm not a Browning guy so I don't have much idea other than gun broker. This is a Browning BAR in 30-06, serial # puts it at 1982, made in USA. Very, very good condition with a Leupold Vari-X-III scope and a soft case.

I was thinking 1100-1200? Is that low or high?

BARs were originally made in Belgium, then assembly was moved to Portugal in the '70s. Excellent-condition Belgian-built ones run in the price range you cite. I would value that one a couple of hundred dollars lower. Of course, markets vary, and in parts of the country where they are popular it could go for more -- or less. A buddy of mine picked up two at two different gun shows last year for $500 apiece. Granted, they had cheap scopes, but they were in very nice shape.

There was a dandy locally here about 3 or 4 months ago..(not one of the older Belgium ones)..don't recall the scope brand but think it was a decent one..as I recall the price was in the $900 range asking price and I think it sold after a while for sale..Going to take a special buyer.

Check gun broker but look for closed auctions that sold. That should get you in the ballpark .

IMO it would be better to sell the rifle and scope separately. The rifle would probably bring 7-800 closer to fall, and the scope half of new price. Not really old enough to interest most collectors, but it looks very clean and I'm sure a hunter would buy it to save a couple hundred off the cost of a new one.

Always. That rifle isn't one that appeals to everyone, so it will be hard enough to find someone that wants one AND has the money. Add a scope to that and if he's already got a scope he don't need to come up with the extra money. Split them up, you will come out ahead.

Yes, I would separate the 2, leave the scope rings with the rifle. The gloss scope near $300 & the gun in mint condition I'd be in the $650 area.

difference in value of VX-III & Vari X III & VX3 Leupolds scopes can be considerable; I believe VX3 are the newest & more expensive??
