First off,,, these ads are a great reminder of a time gone by & fun to look at.
Now, Miss Penny & I share a lot of household duties & I learned LONG before I met her that giving kitchen appliances or house cleaning items was not an appropriate Christmas gift. Over the years she has received many things she truly loves & enjoys, along with me betting her things all year that make her smile.
But the idea of household items as gifts has come up often, and she has allowed that in many cases,,, it is an appropriate gift. Even if we both will use it or get good use out of it. In fact, we were talking about this last week, and she hit me with the same question I've heard from her a few times before. And I always give her the same answer.
Her question; "Why is it ok for men to want & get tools for Christmas, yet it is not ok for women to get appliances?"
I tell her to blame the feminist movement that damned us as men as chauvinistic for such things.
So, long ago, we decided that it was ok for me to get her appliances or household items if it was something she wanted. Even if I help in their use. But I have a hard & fast rule. I will not get her anything like that with an attitude that I expect her to be the only one to use it, and for it to be for servicing my needs only. And I always get her something just for her as well.
