Frog Lube on SR1911

What do you know about the Froglube? After watching countless videos and reading blogs and literature, I have decided to use this exclusively with the 1911.


I have always used Hoppes and gun oil and grease with my SIG Sauer P226 and S&W 686. I am curious if anyone has experience with Froglube they want to share.

I prefer to use Rig grease on my slide and frame.

OK, Week two at the range with the SR1911 CMD... cleaned and lubed with Froglube, conditioned is actually more accurate.
Worked great, shot unbelievably accurately. This gun shoots ragged holed 1.5" groups at 35 feet. No FTF or FTE. Once I learned to manage the 1911 trigger takeup my shots were repeatable. This gun is a tack driver!

As to the Froglube...I was asked why use it exclusively if I have never used it before. I did a lot of research, read a lot of blogs, tried it on some metal parts then decided to just do it. It works great. Smooth non greasy feel, doesn't attract Arizona dust, won't stain when CCW. I am sold on this stuff.

I have prepared and conditioned my S&W 686 Competitor too. I am still using the Hoppes on my P226 for now. I don;t have the time to completely break it down right now.

Back to the SR1911. I am really happy to say I am a 1911 convert after all this time. Ruger got this right.

One last data point. .45 ammo was being rationed so I could only put another 100 rounds through it today.

Think it is different, as I found the BULLFROG web site.....Their products are very good as well. I still have some and have used for many years.

Week three with the Ruger SR1911 CMD using Froglube.

I did a second heat conditioning of the gun during the week using the proscribed method.

I went to the range on Saturday morning and put another 150 rounds (Magtech) through the pistol. I LOVE THIS GUN! This is a dead on accurate piece. I was shooting at 35, 45 and 50 foot targets and my groups (all free hand) were 2-3 inches at 50 feet and tighter on the closer targets. I was shooting semi rapid, meaning that I was shooting a shot every 2 seconds. This gun makes me a better shooter. The trigger has a small take up and a crisp break that is a delight.

When I finished shooting and the gun was still hot, I took a micro fiber cloth and wiped it down then I put some Froglube onto a bore snake and ran it through the barrel three times. I also wiped down the feed ramp. Everything came off!
When I got home and disassembled the gun to clean it...it was clean. I still cleaned it but very little carbon came off. This stuff is the real deal.

So far I could not be happier with either the gun or the Froglube. It cuts down on cleaning time and leaves a clean gun after shooting.

Sounds like another CLP (Clean, Lubricate, Protect) product. I have used Breakfree for years but I will try it. Like the name.

dakota1911, watch the videos about the product on Youtube. You have to condition the gun the first two times then just apply normally the rest. it is not a tough thing but it works nicely.

Use, love it. I still put Slip 2000 grease in the slide slots, combo works great.

Week four of Froglube. Put another 100 rounds through the gun at the range this morning. Wiped it down with a microfiber towel when I was done. Feed ramp came clean right away, the rest of the gun wiped clean. I puled a snake through the barrel and it is as shiny as if it had been cleaned. Once disassembled, the gun wiped completely clean. I rubbed Froglube on it and wiped it off. I ran patches through the barrel and they picked up some carbon.

Thus far, I'm happy.

I have not used it, but have followed its's use on several forums. It appears to be a good CLP product, but like most other things you should make sure you follow the directions when using it.

Most who follow the directions properly have had good success. However, it seems as if some who over apply the product and have let their guns sit for extended periods (months) or those using their guns in relatively cool weather (sub 50 degrees) have had trouble with the slide cycling on their autos. Those users have reported the product has become "sticky" to the touch and has made their guns "sluggish".

I've also seen a picture of, what appears to be mold growing on a Frog Lube treated gun. While I found that odd, I suppose it is possible that under the right conditions, warm and humid for a few months (there was no rust on this gun by the way), this could occur with an organic product like Frog Lube.

I do like the non-toxic CLP's as a group, and while I haven't used it, I think Frog Lube would be a good choice. Just make sure you follow the directions.

In my very old mind and eyes, Froglube is just another buzz word of the decade. Does it work?, of course it does. Is it better than anything else on the market, the jury is still out on that one. Every forum on the net has had discussions on what's the best lube, to my knowledge, no one has ever determined that.
For me, after 56 years of owning, cleaning, and shooting firearms, I have always used Hoppe products, and I have never had the first problem. So, as the old saying goes, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."
I don't own a Ruger 1911, so I have no experience with them, my 1911's are all Colts, and Hoppes is the only oil they ever see.

I use Hoppes on my Sig P226 but have switched all other guns to FrogLube. Hoppes is great and I love the product but I will tell you that after more than 600 rounds without a FTF or FTE with the 1911, I am impressed. This is into third month and I shoot every Saturday morning. I shoot a lot of rounds and the gun gets very hot. No issues. Firstly, Ruger makes a great 1911, secondly the silky mechanics with the Froglube as a lubricant makes the gun a pleasure to shoot.

I have no stake in the company, just wanted to try a new product. Cleanup is unbelievable. I literally wipe the residue off. The feed ramp is shiny after a wipe. Can't ask for much more.

I still like Hoppes and still clean my barrels in the other guns with it.

Frog lube turned to waxy sludge in the cold. Went back to synthetics: Slip EWL and 2000 grease on the slide.

Update...I have more than 2000 rounds through my Ruger CMD 1911 and have used FrogLube exclusively.

I have fed various ammo manufacturers and types (JHP & FMJ) without any FTF or FTE.

The gun wipes down clean and the barrel is a breeze to clean with patches. I put FrogLube on a patch and run it through a few times then put another patch with more FrogLube on it through. Then I put clean dry patches through.It is clean after the second patch. I clean after each range visit which usually has between 50 and 150 rounds through this gun.

Froglube is just as advertised. No visible wear and the gun looks as great as it operates.

Just purchased an SR1911 CMD - beautiful weapon. Before use I Frog Lubed it per the FL directions and have fed 200 rounds through it during the first range outing - not a single misfeed. I was using Winchester white box and some other 'dog brand' target .45 ACP as well as some JHP. I noted that after watching SR1911 reviews that they had feed issues until broken in due to the stiffer spring - with FL, not a single mis-feed. Plus, as mentioned, the weapons clean up easily - just wipe them down! Good stuff. We'll see what long term use brings....

I use Frog Lube on all of my guns.
The clean up after use is very quick. It seems the gun will just wipe clean after the shooting session.
On the 1911's, I don't seem to get more build up of gunk than usual, but it wipes clean very easy.
Just my take, but I like the stuff.

Update, just shy of 4000 rounds through the FrogLube only, Ruger CMD 1911 and have not had one FTF or FTE. The gun looks brand new and is a tack driver. It is one of my favorite guns for target practice. The FrogLube has worked flawlessly as advertised. I won't use anything else.
I have switched all my guns, semi auto and revolver, to FrogLube. Clean up is easy and fast so I clean after every use. No fingerprints to etch the metal when I put them away either.
