found a nice old 77/22

According to the serial number, it was produced on 1987.
Have heard that with the 77/22 it is a crap shoot as to how they shoot.
I stumbled onto a good on.

With a rifle as good looking as the 77/22, being able to shoot is just an extra. However it looks like yours shoots Great!

Very nice! I have its twin. Are you sure of the year? Only the first 2 years had the buttplate before switching to the rubber pad.

According to the Ruger chart that I have, it is 1987.
Unless, somewhere along the way, somebody did a stock replacement.

My inventory list has my -43313 as an 87 also and it has the black plasitic butt plate

I bet Ruger made the change to the rubber pads and kept using up the remaining butt plates at the same time. There was probably quite an overlap because of it.

I dont have a preference in pads as far as funcionality , but sure do prefer the looks of the thin plate vs a rubber pad. Especially on small bore rifles where tbere is no need for a pad.

Nice gun and good shooting.

My old (1970) M-77 is a scoped with no iron sights model and an original red butt pad gun.

So when the 77-22s came out I got the no iron sights blue steel model and scoped it. I added an old Ruger red butt pad.

So when the 77-17s were introduced I did the same thing to one of those.

No way is a butt pad needed on a .22 or .17 but I really like the same lines and over all impression of these rifles, especially when viewed together.

The 77-17 came with a thick black rubber pad and my 10-22 (TALO special) International came with a Ruger red butt pad. My No. 1 in .45-70 REQUIRES the Ruger red butt pad but no way to get one on my No. 3.

The buttplates were changed from black plastic to rubber between 700-63401 and 700-77278.

I've got a 700-49338 with a plastic butt plate - where can I find the chart to find out when it was made?

Never mind - I did a google search and found a Ruger Chart that indicates it was produced in 1987. I didn't realize I've had it that long!

Hogan, I bought the first 77-22 I could find in the fall of 1984. With ammo that it likes, it shoots as well as yours. I eventually installed a Williams peep sight and a Millett bright orange front sight for fun shooting. I have a pair of Sako Finnfires for scope use. Bob! :D

I like the rubber recoil pad as it helps prevent my 77/22 from slipping when it's propped against the wall at the back door.

I was looking in a pawn shop this week and saw a used 77/17 17HMR for $400. Put it on layaway and went back yesterday with a trade and picked it up. It is a stainless with a green laminate stock and a 24" barrel. One hole groups at 25 yards which is as far as I have been able to shoot but I just like the 77s.
