My latest critter problem is Peafowl. Got any suggestions. They won't go near any of the traps I already have, probably the coyote scent.

My friends neighbor had them a while back. They kept coming into his yard. They even perched on a covered porch. Lots of pea poop. He put spikes on the edge of the roof and also sprayed them with a hose whenever he got the chance. They stopped coming into his yard for the most part. Guy let them wander around like feral cats. To visitors it was "cool" but to those that lived in the neighborhood it was annoying.

Well, the ones I've dealt with were handled in a couple of different ways.
One,, if you know where they roost,, AND are capable of putting a ladder or something in the tree,, late at night,, you can slip up near them, and using a catch pole,, noose a foot. Be prepared for a ruckus though.
Trapping.
I use very large cage traps. Mine are 5'-6' long, and 3' tall. I usually place a few traps in an open area. side by side,, touching,, but where the doors wouldn't interfere with each other. I zip tie the doors open.
Next,, I use some green plastic landscaping fencing material,, and attach one edge to one cage side,, just a few inches back from the door. I stake it out & away creating one side of a "V" funnel. I use about 10'-15 ft of fencing. I do the same to the other cage,, in the opposite direction.
Basically creating a funnel design, with the traps at the back of the funnel.
Then I begin a familiarity feeding. I put feed out around the front of the cages, and especially near the open door. Even a little just inside the door. After several days of this,, and seeing them get used to the cages,, I start placing a bit more food inside the cages,, & less outside. Slowly acclimating them to the traps. I even put a bowl of water to each side of the fencing,, to make them comfortable. keep increasing the food inside the traps until you see them go in the traps easily.
Feed on a schedule. Get them used to feed AND your presence.
Once they get very used to that,, and your presence,, then after dark,, cut the zip ties, set the traps to activate, and the next morning,, do the same as always. Feed & water. Back off to allow them their space initially.
Once they are feeding & inside the cages,, you can quickly approach them w/o noise & all, just to get them to move further back into the traps, activating the trap & you have a capture.
It can also help to have a few other "driver" people too for the sides of the open funnel. 3-4 others is great.
While they can fly,, they usually prefer to walk or run. In this case,, it's towards the back of the traps.
It is time consuming & not an immediate capture. It all depends upon how quickly they accept the cage traps.
Now,, since most folks do not want to spend the $$$$ on such large traps,,,, You can also do this using netting material,, kinda like fishing line material. Build a netting "Box" of about 10' square,, INCLUDING a top about 5'-6' off the ground. Prop up the top with a few thin sticks all around. MAKE SURE YOU STAKE DOWN THE SIDES FIRMLY AND SECURE THE TOP MATERIAL TO THE SIDES!
Make an opening in just one side of the box,, of about 4 ft. Put the funnel part on both sides of the opening.
Then begin the feeding & watering.
And this will require 3-4 people to drive them into the "box". Also,, make sure you have a piece of netting to close the opening immediately once you get them inside it.
Once captured, you can collapse the netting on them, and handle them for removal.

A few years later he was called by a neighbor (recent transplants from commifornia) non firearm owners ,who said one of his peacocks was in the neighbors property. And wanted my Buddy to come and get the bird.
My Buddy showed up with his Wife and two Daughters.
Daughter #1, 10 years old had a big fishing net.
Daughter #2 ,12 years old had a rope
Wife had a Ruger 10-22
Buddy had a over under 12 gauge.
The neighbors were shocked to say the least.

Would in a heartbeat if it were legal here. So, it's trap and kill. I've been working on coyotes, and can report that I haven't seen one on my cameras for month. Last one I caught was just about a month ago. It was down in the canyon just inside the property line (it's not fenced that far down).
The Big Orange Box in Garden Dept wasted a lot of money on decoys and audio deterrents....and in some markets netting.......nothing ever helped. All over a customer complaint years ago.....but visual to a customer is a lot different than reality.

Perhaps a bit of my education came prior to working for the Big Orange Box? Try the Horned Owls, they are a natural predator for Peafowl since peafowl are really susceptible to night time predatory species?

I was the district garden captain, but things at home mean more than a JOB! Already have 3 retirements, Why should I sacrifice things at Home for a Orange Box Carreeer?

No mistake. Second retirement. Over 33yrs extracting the truth from retail and ORC types....THD? D28 and D25 were my specialty for grabs/resolved cases depending on season. Best admission ROI if you did the investigation right and DA was willing. Tool Rental as well. But once you had a D28 in the chair in season the case value grew.

Get serious XUSNORDIE, if you haven't been offered at least an ASM Position within 2 years of being at the Big Orange Box something is wrong. We managed larger units that accounted for more expenditures on a whim way back when we where in service. That kind of experience and performance is what civilian companies are begging for. I had my career before My first day at the Orange Box, if I never worked there a day I'd still be more than Okay. You should be also!

You working for THD and having that opinion of the Homer Fund.........well, I'm thinking or knowing you don't know what it is. I've known many....a couple of them close and over the years recognized on ESPN College Gameday. It lifted their lives from despair. You are hourly. Not sure what your gripe is. But like your other crap posts you may be crapping again.
I donate to the Homer fund for folks that make mistakes or have never had to make decisions with money. I've given Regional Managers, Store Mangers, and fellow associates advice. Those that weighed and followed it have done well. Those that didn't have a use for the Homer Fund.
I am close to losing a friend/coworker of over twenty years. He is not on the 22 a day list, but he is in that situation. 12 years ago his spouse passed and left him 4 times what it would cost to pay their mortgage. I said pay the mortgage first and waste the rest after. They are repossessing his home, kicking his Daughter and Grandchildren to the curb, and he is currently drawing from the Homer fund monthly, along with drawing SS while Still working full-time at the Big Orange Box.

A comment about the bobble-head owls. Yes,, they can act as a deterrent. BUT,,,,, they must be placed in an elevated position, AND moved around every day to really be effective.
Just yesterday,, I drove by a small garden. At the edge of it,, was a pole with a fake owl on top,, and 3 crows walking in the garden below it. They knew it was fake & not a threat.

Have you considered a Horned Owl as a Pet?
Or is it more convenient to move a fake owl around?

Or perhaps a Lab or two? They sleep a lot, until a peafowl comes into their sight. Yet they may leave bigger gifts in the yard than a peacock or two?
