flat top questions

Hi all!
I have been looking around on this site and found quite a bit of useful information. I saw a Ruger flat top for sale. The seller advertised it as type four. What does that mean? What are the other three types?
I have a flat top 357 with a four digit serial number. What type is that? Also, when did Ruger stop using the plastic grips on the blackhawks and the flat top 44s ?
What type box did the flat tops come in?
