Rodfac those grips look fantastic! Nice workmanship and choice of wood. Just beautiful.
I bought one of the 4 5/8" Flat Top .41's and mostly love it. Nice sized, easy handling little shooter. Had to crank the sights way up to get it to point of aim out of the box. Not a problem really and the gun is accurate as can be. These black textured grips do get tough at higher pressure though for me at least. I'm looking for a set of fake ivories for it like the ones on the Flat Top convertible Limiteds.
While happy with mine it does have a couple of quirks that need ironing out before it will be "mine". The cylinder gets tight and doesn't want to turn as freely after shooting 50 rounds or so. Pushing the pin in to ensure it is seated doesn't help. Seems normal after cleaning so maybe the problem is just fouling and break in? (I only have 250 rounds through so far so more research is warranted!). Also suspect the cylinder pin latch spring is weak.
The other quirk which could be related to the first is that there is a very weak "click" as the cylinder is rotated and a seemingly sloppy reset of the stop. My other Blackhawks are crisp with a strong click. Forgive my amateurish terminology here.
I need to take another look inside to find a fix for these things as a fine shooting pistol deserves at least as much! Once settled this Flat Top will be in regular rotation so to speak, (actually already is). This seems a great size pistol for all but the heavy loads of a great caliber. Glad to see them around!

I think you might have a barrel/cylinder gap that's too tight. Once the barrel warms up and expands a little in combination with fouling in the gap, the cylinder may be rubbing at that point. Next time you shoot it, look for rub marks on the front face of the cyl. If it's rubbing, draw file .001" or so off the rear barrel surface to open the gap slightly. Check the sides of the cyl latch for rubbing on the slot that it fits thru and polish and fit as needed.

Thanks for the compliment, Snappy...pretty wood on a great revolver. As to your problem, as Hondo says, it could be a cylinder/barrel forcing cone gap that's just too fine, or it could be a recoil shield ( the circular portion of the frame right around the firing pin hole.) If the cylinder is just too short for the frame, a factory problem, the rear of the cartridge drags as it passes the firing pin hole as the gun is cocked. Either is a problem best cured by Ruger at the factory in my opinion. Best regards, Rod
