Long story is that there is a revolver down at the LGS. It looks like a Custom Colt SAA (its in 25-20 , bushed and reamed cylinder) but Colt grips don't fit. Pulled the grips off and it looks like an old model Ruger grip frame in a way. Coil spring and guide like an old model blackhawk. It has 416 in a circle, but no other markings and looks a lot like a Super Blackhawk grip frame with the square back trigger guard rounded off to look like a Blackhawk.
On the top strap there is a groove about 1/16" wide on either side and it has adjustable sights where the rear sight sits on a "shelf" at the back of the top strap just like a Blackhawk.
S/N of the gun is on the frame, in front of the grip frame just like a Colt and screws go into the frame from the left sided for the hammer and trigger. Nickle plated. Cylinder does not have a removable bushing.
Kind of a Frankengun.
I have no idea what it is. Got me stumped

Well that is interesting.

Colt never chambered the SAA for 25-20.

What does bushed and reamed mean, then you say, no removable bushing??

Doe the left side of the frame below the cyl have patent dates and the Colt logo or the Colt name and address on the barrel?

A Ruger grip frame does not have the same screw pattern spacing as the Colt.

Bushed and reamed means the chambers have had a bushing installed in the chambers then reamed for 25-20. Colt cylinders have a removable bushing in the center of the cylinder (base pin bushing).
No markings on the gun beyond the S/N and "25-20 Win" marked on the bottom of the grip frame.
I know Colt made a 32-20 SAA but not a 25-20.

On early Super blackhawks, where was the S/N marked? Were the screw heads on the left or right side?
The serial number begins with "S" and if it is an early super blackhawk conversion, the year of mfg of the gun would be 1961 if it is a Ruger conversion.

Screw heads are on the left side.

Cylinder has been bushed and a new barrel installed.

The chambers are sleeved and reamed, not "bushed".
As you said, the cyl pin slips in a bushing, so its "bushed".

Is the cyl fluted?

Is the new barrel sleeved as well?

All Rugers are and always have been on the lower front right side frame. Screw heads are on the right side. So it's not a Ruger.

If the # starts with an S it's not from 1961 unless it has an SA in front of the #. And not a Colt unless it has an SA prefix or suffix, or an S prefix and A suffix.
With an SA suffix the earliest it could be is 1976.
With an S prefix and A suffix, the earliest it could be is 1993.

That's a Virginian Dragoon.
They were made and sold by Interarms and were early competition for Ruger Blackhawks.
They are a true 4 click carry only 5 round clone of the Colt but bigger ,heavier and with adj. sights.
