First shots with the 20 gauge Shockwave!

Nice handy little shotgun that shoots really well. Had an issue with the first few magazine loads but that cleared up later in the day. One thing that will need attention is to radius the sharp edge around the loading port...ouch!
Other than my head camera mount taking off at end of trail walk it wasn't a bad day!

Oh and the cool thing about this gun is Mossberg sends a copy of the paperwork from the BATF
stating that the Shockwave is legal under Federal Guidelines....should you need proof!
I would carry that with me when shooting the gun.

Yes....one of those cheap little "Lawyer" locks that gets thrown away!

I guess they had to give you the paper legal work since the barrel is to short to print it on.

Also included is a supplement 4 page manual and on every page in bold print "Do Not replace the Raptor grip with anything else or it will reclassify the weapon!"
Some localities might not know of this legal short barrel 'FIREARM" so maybe not a bad idea to keep the paperwork handy.
Reminds me of the ol' Street Sweeper years ago when they were legal for a short time then the axe fell!

Well what you get is a legal short barrel,handy, shot shooter without having to go through the Fed.
paperwork and 250 buck fee.
Now my question I need to find an answer to...I also have a .45 Colt Mare's Leg with 9 inch barrel that I can carry loaded in my vehicle since it is a pistol. Can you carry the Shockwave loaded in your vehicle since it is not a shotgun nor rifle but a firearm?

Mossberg's lawyers are only trying to protect their customers from ignorant or overenthusiastic law enforcement.

I carry a similar (insurance) letter with my home-made Shockwave.

I visited a place last evening and noticed one of the "smoothbore pump pistols" with a nice leather belt of shells on a rack by the door. Mr. Bad Guy would get a big wake up call at that house. From the perspective of a guy who knows how to use a shotgun, I see both benefits and handicaps with these firearms. Careful attention to ammo choice is a requirement. Enough shotload and velocity to get the job done w/o generating uncontrollable recoil is a fairly narrow path.

I think for most close in defense encounters the 20 ga. in this size shotgun would be about perfect.
The velocity of the shot load is same as a 12 ga. but just not as much of a load.
No.4 Buck or a slug is going to stop some unfriendly activity much better than a .410

A '410' Shockwave for those of us with various enfeeblements, like bum shoulders, hands, etc.

Would I prefer a 12 or 20 sure, but as has been noted by a number of gun folk, once you lose some physical abilities you used to take for granted, you have to compromise or go unarmed...and that aint gonna happen.

Heck, there's a .22 Magnum semi-auto made by Rock Island Armory - the XT, I may have to one day carry as it's can be racked by Grandma and though such a caliber is less than I prefer, it's better than nothing, and far better than a .22 LR.

The Mossberg 12 Gauge works with the Aquilla 1.75" shells with a product( $15 ) from OPSol called the mini-clip. Not sure about a 2" shell.

Thanks for the video. Nice gun. Question: Do you also, or plan to, carry a pistol with you out in the woods? I usually do, and have practiced some with my 590 Mariner dropping it on my left forearm by the sling and let it swing while I get my pistol/revolver out and shoot. Not as hard as it sounds and doesn't effect handgun accuracy significantly. Also keeps the shotgun handy and out of the dirt. Useful if you have a malfunction, or run out of shells in the magazine.

The shockwave is a "firearm" and as such has to have a minimum overall length. It is not classified as a pump "pistol". If it was a pistol it could even be shorter.
