First 10/22 Suggestions

Greetings everyone. I'm sure there are very similar posts to this one but please indulge me.... I'm looking to get my first 10/22 rifle mainly for target shooting at the gun club and to have a SHTF type of survival rifle. Figure a .22 would be a good one to start with. I'm totally new to rifles and the gun club I'm a part of has a great 400 yard rifle range to learn and gain skill. I know this question is wide open but any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks all!

the carbine is the basic 1022 and is good

for looks, the DSP rifle version is a little better

and there are many varitions including full stocked, takedown, etc

are you planning on modifing, if so the possiblities get extremely much greater

Most folfs consider the 22LR as a 65 yard round, going to 100 yards is pushing and 300 becomes an artillery arc to the target

I can safely say that modifying would be in my future. Also, the rifle doesn't necessarily have to be a Ruger. I want to make a good investment and buying cheap stuff is not something I've been known for. Uh oh. :?

400 yards will be more than a challenge with any .22. There are so many things you can do with a 10/22 (that rhymes) you just need to get one and start messing with it.

I agree. Trouble is deciding which one. :shock:

maybe a trip to your dealer and his inventory may make the desicion for you (if he even has one)

100 yards is a challenge with a standard 10/22 but 50 yards is great fun... especially as you modify the rifle and try different types of ammo...

I think as long as your range has a 50-75 section to shoot you should go with the 10/22. Here's my take on them... they are a basic 22lr rifle in semi-auto that you can upgrade an modify yourself at very little cost... if you really want to get taught how to truly shoot well then the 10/22 with modified iron sights ($69), a tuned trigger ($40- $90) and a basic military sling ($12) is all you need to attend an Appleseed Project. Spend two days learning both how to shoot really well and also why our countrie's history requires it.

The worse thing about the 10/22 is that once you really get into one... there will be a second one on your list real quick.

Oh, so... go for it... but just buy the basic model with 18" factory barrel and standard stock... no frills.
