Fires in NC

Thanks for thinking of us here.

First off,, that fire is about 15 miles away more or less. It's in a section where road access is limited to coming from the north. It's partially off Bat Cave Rd, in the Old Fort Community.

The interesting thing is that Miss Penny experienced an almost exactly same type of fire in the exact same area about 40 years ago. She even got a picture of the current fire,, as seen from her old house via her son. (He's fine,, but it came via his cousin.) The last time,, the fire burned almost to the edge of her house,, with it stopping within inches. So for her to see this,, scares the heck out of her.

But it's got a pretty good distance & topography to overcome to get anywhere near us here.

Sadly,, it is in an area that's already been hit hard by Helene.

By the good Grace of God,, no fatalities. People have been evacuated,, and houses have burned. But nobody seriously hurt.

I drove through part of the Crooked Creek area about 2 weeks ago. And yes,, it's part of where the fire is currently at.

Hopefully,, the rain we have in the forecast is due tomorrow,, and that'll help a LOT!!!!!

Last night, Blue Ridge FD (East Flat Rock/Flat Rock) was putting out a brush fire at the house across the ridge from the back of my house (approx. 100 yds). I surmise that the brush fire was caused by someone in a neighboring neighborhood burning storm damage. Winds were light yesterday, but stuff happens. Our local VFD got on top of it quickly.

As Sam has mentioned,, we do have a lot of debris that people want to burn and conditions are not the best for that. The winds a few days ago made it very dangerous. Yet,, some people,,, refuse to realize the dangers.

Better conditions today for fighting the fires,, so we are hopeful they get under control.
