Fired a SR1911 last week end.

My son in law invited me to go shoot his new SR1911 last weekend and naturaly, I couldn't pass up a free trip to the range.
Brand new gun, cleaned but never fired. All together we fired over 500 rounds, mostly Federal but also some Wichester, Remington, (steel cased) Tula, and a hand full of old USGI ball.
We used both factory mags plus 4 cheap Metalform's, two of my old USGI mags, a 20 year old Pacmeyer, and one unidentified mag that I've had longer than I can remember.

The good;
The thing ran like a champ no matter what brand of ammo we used, or which brand of mag we used.
Very good sight picture.
Decent trigger.
Zero malfunctions, no break-in required.

The not so good;
The dots on the rear sight were further from the top of the sight than the dot on the front sight, so lining up the dots caused the gun to shoot low for both of us.
That's it. No further complaints.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot to mention that my 11 year old Grand Daughter went too. As it turned out, she likes shooting her Dad's new SR1911 better than shooting "Paw Paw's High Power", but surprizingly, she likes his P89 the best.
I never would have thought that, but it does go to show that ya just can't pick out a gun for someone else.

For sure, the reliability was there...leastways, it was with the ammo we tried. I was pleased to find that it ran 100% with any ole magazine too...thank you, Ruger.
One thing that I failed to mention was that it's barrel came "pre throated", meaning that I would expect it to also run well with most hollow point ammo. If that holds to be true, then the SR1911 may prove to be one of the few 1911-type pistols that don't need any post-sale reliability work for the HP crowd. I would have liked to have tested that myself, but we didn't have any on hand at the time.

Sounds like your Grand daughter has very good taste in handguns. Its pretty hard to beat the p89. Accurate, reliable and soft shooting.

If you are, this is a shock. Heck man, I thought you was dead.

Oh yeah, about Paw-Paw's Hi-Power;
It aint much, just an old nickeled Browning that I got off of Gary Cole up in Kentucky. Shoots good though, and don't cost much to feed. It's also heavy enough to smack somebody in the head with if the need arises.....which, if you're the real Hoss Fly, you already know is an important aspect to have in a sidearm for some people...LOL.
The Grandaughter I was speaking of is "little" Olivia, who was probably about 7 the last time that the real Hoss Fly seen her. She's 11 now, and my Hi-Power is the first pistol that she ever learned to use. She is perty-dern good with it, and almost as good with her Dad's 1911.

Well dern Hoss, I'm glad to hear it....it's been a while.

Hopefully, I aint far behind you. I'm presently a bit over 63, so I figger that I've got about a year and a half to go....if I can hold up that long.

I decided to stop (workin) at 62- Just got tired of the whip crackin at my head- Less money but i don't need much :roll:
Back OT- Up here i have yet to SEE a SR1911! Ain't looked in a few months tho, summers are spent on the water as much as possible, colder weather sets in & back to guns :lol:

I don't want to interrupt but I've shot several HPs through mine with no issues. The Federal HST, Sierra JHC (Big HP) and Winchester SXT have all performed quite well. The Sierra was loaded in Cor Bon ammo. I've also shot some 185 grain Speer Gold Dots I handloaded and they ran well too.

Shot one today 200gr swc cast boolit 3.8grs clays. Shot indoors 50ft that gun shot aswell as my springfield 1911a1 and as goog as my friends Kimber. Smooth not a single problem. This was my buddy,s gun. Can,t wait to buy one I have the springfield. So I was very pleased.

Only FTF I have had is winchester HPs and Kimberly mags. Ruger, remington and checkmate mags all work great.
