FINEST 9mm HANDGUN EVER MADE.....?

Takeing nothing away from any Ruger 9mm handgun ever made. I own a couple. But, what model and make would you really consider the Best of the Best handgun ever made for the 9mm caliber bullet?

Overall, though, and all things considered, I've never seen anything I liked any better than the 3rd Generation (some call them 4th Gen) S&Ws. I have a 5906 and wish I had a matching 5904 (alloy frame) to go with it.

The SIG P210-5 is the pick of my 9MM PARABELLUM litter which includes I think at least one version of every popularly known 9MM pistol made since 1908. They ALL pale in comparison to that SIG P210-5 pistol.
This SIG P210-5 just happens to be 7.65/9MM convertible too, the only one I've ever seen.

I think Ruger made the KP89x 9mm/30 luger.....don't know about it being the best but it was a convertible...the only 9mm auto I own is a S&W 669....a compact double stack.....I kinda like it......see ya RR.

FUNNY you should bring this up at this point in time. I had one of those Ruger P89 9MM/30LUGER convertibles on order for a coon's age and never got it. Then SOMEONE you know borrowed all my P89 magazines and sold 'em to someone else. I then dumped the P89 I did have and have never owned SR&INC 9MM pistol since then, nor will I ever...

I'm partial to a couple of Italian beauties: Beretta 92 Compact-L and 92FS Inox. In truth, these are the only 9mm weapons I've owned (exceptions being my old BH Convert and Marlin Camp 9)... 8)

I'll throw in with the Browning P-35 chorus IF I can have one with a crispy 4-5# trigger, a thumb safety that feels and works like my favorite 1911, good sights, a hammer that doesn't bite me, and that doesn't rattle when I shake it. I'll live, if I HAVE to, with the mag disconnect and the three-hands-and-a-bench-vise detail strip.

Otherwise...out of the box...not so much. :?

Okay, john m. browning developed this at the very end of his illustrious career and considered it his very best, it was the one and only wondernine before that phrase was coined in the 1980's. it has been made nearly unchanged for 80+ years and is still a great gun. I would go with the High Power. being from Ogden Utah the home of John M. I do have a certain bias. single action p.s. if you are in the area make sure you stop by the bronwing firearms museum.

The Hi-Power is actually an improved Browning design. A Belgian engineer, who's name doesn't come to mind, perfected it. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that is the true story. :? Regardless, a heckuva 9mm. :D

Saint John didn't live to see the first HP built. He never handled, saw, or shot one.

Browning P-35 was never a wondernine. "Wondernine" meant a gun that had BOTH double action AND high mag capacity. The first wondernine was the Smith 59. :wink:

Commercial Lugers, of which there were many variants, some carbine models were engraved and inlaid. Here's 2 links to representative models:

In more modern production, the P35 is still a thoroughbred, yet I'd give the SIG P-210 the nod for hand fit and finish.

(that said, a SIG 226 or 228 would be my go-to gun for work purposes)

Having owned a zillion different 9mm pistolas (EXCEPT for a SIG 210) I will have to say my Browning Hi-Power is the ne plus ultra. BTW, the name of the Belgian engineer that actually brought the design to fruition was Dieudonné Joseph Saive, who also designed the FN-1949 and the FN-FAL. Obviously a clever fellow!

I would love to own a SIG P210, but I will likely purchase another P08 before ever doing so. Sumpin' 'bout Lugers.....

First of all, I love the 9mm semi-auto, and there are a many many great models to choose from, but the one I will never be without is the Smith & Wesson 5906. Not a concealed carry piece by any stretch of the imagination, but a great handgun! Also like the Ruger P95, just thought I would mention that because this is a Ruger thread.

I'm partial to the Star model B. Star scaled down the 1911 to a 9mm sized package. But because the 1911 lockwork was still under patent, they used the lockwork from the Star Model A. Externally looks the same, operates the same and feels the same as a 1911.

Finest meaning the way it is constucted, performance and reliability.
A few years back, a lot of Law Enforcement agencies used the S&W 5906 and till today, many officers still wished they did.

I wish I had a S&W 5904 as well.

I think the SIG P-210 would top the list if that's the standard. From all I've read and heard about it (never owned or shot one), it's simply in a class by itself.

That doesn't mean it's my favorite, or would be my first choice for any of dozens of "real world" uses I can think of.

My sentimental favorite 9mm is the Walther P.38, but that doesn't mean it would be my first choice for real-world use, either. But then, that's not what you asked. :wink:

( My German ancestors designed, built and used this caliber in about the only way it was intended for ( parabellum), throwing LOTS of bullets downrange and try and 'hurt/wound/disable, NOT necessarily kill anyone , ...some call it "spray and pray"...and now today, the locals call it "drive by......" :wink:
