I finally went to a private range close to were I live. Paid $25 for a year membership and only have to pay $6 per visit all day. So I brought my SR9c with me and a friend with his Sig .40, The pistol range has steel targets with a 35 yard range and the rifle range is 100 yards. When we went there was a competetion group already there practicing on the pistol range, so we had to use the rifle range. There was already 2 guys there already sighting in there AR-15's so we sat up next to them. We positioned our targets around the same distance the 2 AR-15's were about the half way point. (not paying attention we set our targets at 50 yards!). My friend and I started enjoying our toys and was wondering why we SUCKED so much! (DUH, it still did not hit us that we were at 50 yards) so we adjusted our shooting and was starting hit the target. Myself I was hit the top right corner of the target and my friend was hitting the bottom of his target. I decided to move my target back a little further to compensate for the high shots. (which I relized after we left that I was shooting at 55 to 60 yards and still hitting around the same place.) So after 250 rounds we decided to leave and thought we both needed alot more practice, until it hit me on the way home that we were on the 100yard rifle range and what yardage we were shooting! SORRY I did not keep the target due to i thought we SUCKED and did not want the evidence to show. Now after realizing the distance we were shooting we both feel better of what we did and wished we keep the evidence! Oh well, live and learn! :)

Congrats on joining the range! May this be only the start of good times to come.

You'll get used to the ranges to target, all that stuff. The important thing is you're out there doing it.

Thanks Yosemite Sam, since I now know that the proper range to shoot a handgun (concealed carry gun) is between 25 yds to 35 yds, I guess I will hit the target in or around the bulls eye a little bit more! :) I guess the only i could do worse is to go duck hunting with the Judge mag. Now that would be a story to tell Jr one day!! :) I never even heard of a gun range that was so cheap to shoot at! $25 yearly fee plus $6 for all day shoot! Guess it's time to take the 44 magnum Amadeo Rossi s.a. "Winchester 92" out and sight in at 100 yards. How does the factory sights work? All the way foward (high position) would that be the 200yd distance? I am not sure what the max distance would be on this lever action, but i guess 200 yds would be a normal distance for shooting.

Sounds like a great day at the range , Good Shooting!
Just remember the FBI teaches us that the "average" gun fight takes place at under 15 feet in dim light and is over in 1.2 rounds.
So do some close up practice too!

Cheers,

2dogs, thanks for the info! Since the pistol range that i go to has steel targets, i'm not to sure I want to be under 15 feet. But that does make me think about using the rifle range with the targets around 15 ft. Have to check with the owner, Oh wait a minute the pistol range is up to 35 yards and there is a competition group that practices there and i beleive they may have targets at that range. I will have to check this out next time I go! Thanks again for the idea!! :)
