Finally found Ruger PC9

Been looking for one for two years. Just brought it home today.

Here it is, with its P89 cousin. Already had couple mags for the pistol, now I got several more with the carbine.

I don't knowif anyone messed with the trigger, but - unlike many users report - feels great to me.

I have the same pair at home. Really like being able to share mags between the P89 and PC9.
I live in a "free" state, so have a few of each 10, 15, 20 and 30 round mags for the pair.
The PC9 is very accurate. Like all Ruger guns, in my experience, will shoot any ammo.

Forgot to mention, mine has the ghost ring rear sight, which I also like.

I'm glad I got the notch sight, I don't like ghost ring.
My mags are 15 and 20rounders. Guess I could order some 30round ones, but don't really think it's worth the extra money....I have other guns that have large magazines, so this light little carbine can go with 20.

After disassembling, I found out some of the previous owners did modify the trigger, welded a brass block on it to keep it partially pressed back, eliminating much of the "dead" movement and likely also polished the surfaces to bring it to very smooth operation. Doesn't feel dangerously light now, so I think I'll keep it that way.

Strange. So far I only had chance to shoot it couple times, but it always performed the way it should. Yesterday I lended it to two other people at the range and it did fire burst two or three times for them. I tried it again, same ammo, but it shot in the normal semi-auto style for me. Later I realized that I shoot with left hand, while those two used their right. Could that be a reason that their trigger did something different? Did anyone experience PC9 firing bursts? It likely has something to do with the former owner's trigger mods, though so far it only served to lighten the trigger nicely.

Not only has that never happened with mine (thousands upon thousands of rounds), this is the first time I've ever heard of it happening in a PC9. Hope you get it figured out and fixed.

Check the screws in the trigger guard to see if maybe loose.

Congrats Knecht, they are a great pair. I was looking at your post and kicking myself at the same time as I sold my PC9 a couple years ago to a friend after his relentless badgering. I got a very good price but would rather have the gun back now. Hope I can find another someday.

Thanks Welder, I really like this handy carbine, too.
I'll check it out tonight once more, but didn't find anything special while cleaning it after range.
I don't really mind if it fires that way, it's kind of cool. Just would be nice to know what causes it and how to avoid it/make it so.
As I mentioned above, the former owner did modify the trigger, he welded a brass block on the trigger base, which forces it to be partially pulled back all the time. It makes the pull much shorter and faster. Not totally sure if the inner parts were further modified or not, but the trigger goes very smoothly and easily. I've always read that these carbines got hard and heavy triggers, so I guess this must have been modified strongly.
I guess asking Ruger for a new trigger (in case I don't like this) would be a waste of time, right? These have been discontinued long ago, there are no spareparts offered at their site.

Don't know man... keep in mind if the wrong government employee is at the range when it fires a burst it can cost you about 10 years and all your guns....I'd assume if the trigger has been lightnend then it was just bump firing..... I hope.

I agree with blume357, I think it was bump firing due to the different way shooters hold the carbine and press the trigger.

If the carbine is held a little loose and the trigger is pressed very lightly, the carbine will move backward just enough to reset the trigger and then it returns to the normal firing position and pushes the trigger against the trigger finger before the shooter has released the trigger. Or something like that. :?

I'll give it some more testing next time. Just thought I'll ask around and see if anyone knows this problem.
As for legal issues, it wouldn't likely be such a big deal here. While full-auto reqiures a special license, it wasn't me who made the gun fire that way. I registered it as a "B" category and the cop was supposed to examine it properly before admitting it as a B. I didn't make any modifications to the system since, so it's not my problem.

Sorry Knecht, I did not look at your location... "my bad" as we say over here.... I've only to Prauge in the Czech republic but can say only one thing about it... must be one of the most if not the most beautiful cities in the world.

Cool that someone actually fixed the trigger pull on the rifle... over here most folks just mess them up.... we used to have a guy on the forum here that actually helped design the rifle... his forum name was Coffeepot.

Glad you liked your visit...you should stop by and see some more. IMO, there are far nicer places here than Prague, both manmade and natural.

I can post pics of the trigger guts once I give it a full disassembly for more serious cleaning.
I really love shooting this thing. Have no optics nor accessories on it, other than a two-point hunter's sling. Gives it a nice, spartan feeling. I try not to over-accessorize my other rifles, but tend to have a red-dot and flashlight on most of them. This one shall remain simple.

I'm the same way. My ARs have an ungodly amount of stuff on them and even my Mini has a red dot and a light.
But my PC9 only has a buttstock mag holder and a sling.

As you may know, the ring mounts over the receiver on a PC9 are the same as a Ruger Mini 14/30 Ranch Rifle and so when looking for optics or rails that's what you match to.

As for Prauge, the interesting contrast was I was staying on the south east section in a big soviet per-manuctured 20+ story concrete building. The best way to describe the construction of these government monstrosities to fellow Americans is imagine a 25 story concrete trailer.

All doors were thin hollow veneer, lights in the halls didn't work, to keep the bath room door shut I had to rig a lock out of some para shoot cord I had and remove and reuse some of the screws that held the panel walls up...

That's right, we don't have termites here. Some of the concrete buildings do experience sudden raids of regular ants though, mainly the "Faraon" specie, but those can be quickly overcome by poison.
It's a shame that many people who come here only see and remember the ugly concrete districts of our cities. Trust me, we hate them too. It's a monument of the commie stupidity. On the other hand, compared to all the crap that EU does now, the commies were merely freshmen students of stupidity.

They came out with the ghost ring sights after I bought my PC9.

Had I known they were going to do that I would have waited a while.

Ghost ring sights are something either you like or don't. Personally I like them for my non-optics mounted rifles and carbines.
