I found a navy seal foundation 1911 @ what I thought was a decent price online so I jumped on it .( Beautiful 1911 in my opinion) . I am an Avid TALO collector and have been for a while and haven't seen this before. Got a call from my FFL where it was shipped to and he has received all my other talo's as well & he says your guns here and it is stunning . Now the weird part , he says can I ask you a question ( I said sure) he says do you work for Ruger? I say no . Then he says do you know the serial # I again say no . He says man you got lucky the Serial# is USN010. My question is did I get lucky? Dealer offered me 1700$ for it and I said no thanks . Hope I didn't screw up. This is my first post and glad I found this great site . I have 4 Rugers including this one pics soon. 2 super Redhawks 44mag & 454 Casull and a CF Lcp . Thanks for any info . Will

NO you didn't screw up if he's willing to pay $1700 it must be worth far more, keep it and enjoy it.

Thank you both, I was surprised as hell since I thought the first twenty or so always went to factory or Talo distributors . Feel better now :)

Not sure why the dealer would offer you $1700 for it. It is a beautiful gun, but unless Ruger started the public release at 010 it is no more valuable than any other one. If Ruger started the numbers at 001, then you would get a hard core collector to pony up thousands. There are wealthy #1 serial number collectors that care nothing about what it cost to get it.

I personally know of a Colt SAA collector with a serial number matched pair from the 1800s that was a box set with bullets. Not sure who it was made for as he never said, but the person was apparently famous. He paid $50,000 for the one period correct bullet now making the set worth over $500,000. To date he has approx. 5000 Colt SAAs in his collection as well as over 300 machine guns. I am told he is a decendant of the family that patented what we know as the "modern" lacquer finish.

I would enjoy it and shoot it. And being this is a Talo addition I am sure it will be free of most of the usual SR1911 issues.

Thanks again for the info , I guess that's my main question ( was this gun supposed to go out to the public ? Did ruger sell USN001-USN500? Did they hold the first 9? I was hoping someone from Ruger might be able to give us a definitive answer . Or do I just own the 10th one out and it's no big deal ? Please keep the great post coming and thank you all for the info.

It's funny collectable guns are like signed football jerseys that are certified which I also sell. One week a New England ( Aaron Hernandez ) jersey goes for 179$ a week later same exact jersey sold for 1209$ it is what it is . I sell them for less than most as I am lucky enough to have went to school with a few nfl guys . And from week to week the price swing is crazy .

I would go directly to Talo as they should have record.

Thank you for the kind words. The Navy Seals Foundation recognized TALO & Ruger at the Ruger booth at SHOT 2014.

In answer to the question, TALO shipped all the of guns, 1 through 500 in the last few months. The low serial numbers normally go to the wholesaler's owners. Some get away. In this case, Ruger's president made sure he got his number. TALO is very proud to participate in this edition. It would not have happened without the factory's help and encouragement.

We'd love to do another.

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my question . I am addicted to TALO handguns and have quite a few , mostly Colt but all have been problem free and a pleasure to shoot and collect .

If you're gonna shoot it I'd dump it for a profit immediately then buy one to shoot and pocket the profit.
