Finally! A Birdshead Vaquero. Near 100% Ruger SASS Posse

I've shot SASS since 2006. I've always wanted to shoot Vaqueros in .45 with birdshead grips but never could find them. Until now. I ended up with Beretta birdsheads in .45 and .357 because that's what I could find. Now the Cherokee Posse is almost ALL Ruger! My grandaughter shoots SASS with Bearcats; my grandsons shoot with NMV's in .45 and .357. Sooner or later I'll run across another Vaquero with a birds head grip and we will be 100% Ruger!

I also did a little Old Model Dimpled Ejector Button detail to em. Finger stay's put now.

Recently they got converted into Convertibles, 45 Colt/ 45 ACP, Man those little dookers come out easy... :D

I hope one day to get em all scratched up like this one from the base of the Gila Mountains, Arizona.

I did... it lives at the base of the Gila Mountains, Airzona... :wink: ohhh and it came from a pawn shop for a nickle, song & dance.

Really,,, that's about all I know, so put that fancy whip back on your saddle, you little whippersnapper.

I just picked up one of the new TALO single six birdsheads today. Couldn't believe my eyes when I saw two of them on the counter at my local gun shop. Should've bought them both, but I've been promising my girlfriend a new mountain bike for about a month now, and I'm pretty certain she would have killed me if I came home with $1000 worth of Rugers and no bike. Haha good thing she likes guns or she would have probably killed me for comin' home with just one of them. (I haven't told her yet about the Security Six I picked up on GB earlier this week...I'll just tell her I bought it "for her to shoot", and she'll probably spare me.)

i saw one at Kames and couldn't believe it?
Decided not to buy, don't like the size of grip compaired to rest of gun. But, sure would look nice with the SS Birdshead .45
also, saving for an M1A....

I go to the Medina shows at fairgrounds a lot. i'm not familiar with DC Guns? Is it a fair sized shop?

It's not big. Just a tiny little brick building on the East side of Rt. 42 about 1/4 mile north of Medina square. You'll probably drive right by it before you even see the sign. Very small. But they sell their share of guns.

Traded a pair of 44 Bis Vaqs for this pair of 45s shortly after the turn of the century. Free-spin pawls and Seven Springs are about the only mods, except having my pard Russn Hound laser engrave my alias on the grips.
They have served me well.

Neither the Rugers, the grips, the Howell damascus, nor my great grandpap's old Daddy Barlow is for sale.

Bkat, I was fortunate to inherit 20 or so of Paw Back's knives, his S&W carry pistol, and his Ithaca twenty guage double birdgun. He carved figurines from wood, coal, and perhaps other materials. As a result, his knives are worn out and virtually worthless as to monetary value. His guns are well-worn, too. They are, of course, priceless to me.

However, the inheritance from Mr. Back that has been the greatest influence on my life has been his AFFINITY for knives, handguns, two-barrelled shotguns, and good bird dogs.

I like those Birdshead Sheriffs Models! I have a 45 Colt and converted a 4 5/8" .22 Single-Six to one with a stainless birdshead grip.

I rarely shoot the 45 for SASS but do use it crossdraw fashion for the occasional Josey Wales category shoots, and often carry it when in the woods with some 'Ruger only' level handloads (282gr 45-270SAA bullets running about 1100fps). It is a nice, compact packin' pistol for that purpose, plenty accurate and powerful within the necessary range, even if it does buck a bit with that short barrel and rounded grip.
