Spent a couple of days arguing with my new LBT 4 cavity mold for a 130 grain flat base FN bullet. Figured that my alloy just wasn't hot enough... Ran details up the pole at Single Actions. Sixshot and Fowler said alloy was not hot enough.... Bumped the temperature up a few times and started getting good bullets. This thing weighs 132 grains on my scales. The nose is .45 long... Now for a little size and lube... :)

Very nice bullets. I have been interested in finding "heavy for caliber" molds for the .32 since I read Jeff Quinn's article on the two new 327's in January. I have an RCBS RN that casts about 93 gr. and a 115 gr RNFP from Lee that I like.

Please give details on the mold as I am interested in getting one myself.

Thanks,

I`ll bet the trouble was fillout around that front band & crimp groove ! But them`s some purty boolits!!

But a little heat goes a long ways !!

Wheel weight alloy???

Good job !!!

I picked up a ton of linotype a while back that I cut 50/50 with an alloy my commercial caster buddy uses with linotype to get the final alloy close to 92-6-2. Air cooled the bullets hit about 16 on a LBT hardness tester.

Conspired with Veral at LBT on this mold... A little bit of what I wanted and a whole lot of what he recommended.

We have a group buy going over at Cast Boolits for a 115 grain Keith SWC in .314-.315 for anyone that is interested. I know that is not especially heavy for .327 Fed, but its still a nice weight. My plan is to use it for .32 H&R in my Single Six. I'll probably eventually acquire a .327 Fed in some form, probably a SP101, or if an Airweight becomes available. I'd love a Single Six in .327 also, but it would involve a longer cylinder. Nice boolits Axehandle!

Anyway, here is the link:

2 Dogs has a lot of good things to say about those molds over on the cast bullets forum... I am entirely to new to the process to experiment very much... Maybe in another year or two I'll be ready.

This from an old Lyman Ideal mold. Throws a .313 104 grain HP out of wheelweights. Slow going on the casting but it shoots well and opens up nicely. Picture isn't real clear but gives an idea of what the bullet looks like.
