Fax Calls ?

Have any of you guys started getting fax calls? I use an answering machine on my land line. I've started getting from three to five fax calls a day for the past two weeks. After my greeting, I can hear the fax signals go for a bit before my answering machine hangs up or their phone hangs up. Don't know any reason I would start getting these calls. My printer is also a fax machine but I never leave it on when I'm not printing anything. My cell phone doesn't get bothered with this crap.

Not for years. All it takes is someone who is one number off to get someone else.

Is it the same number doing it? My wife's sister ended up faxing a bunch of patient records to a supermarket instead of the doctor she was trying to send them to. The store was 1 digit different than the doctor.

This was right after HIPAA became a big thing and she was dismissed from her job for doing it.

You might could try call blocking the number... don't know of any other way to stop it. Probably some computer trying to send you information on a free cruise to the Bahamas or such. Back when I had a fax machine I would get these and at the bottom of the print out it would say if you did not want to receive anymore faxes to call a number and enter your fax number.. I finally realized that when you did this all you were doing was giving these folks a good fax number... and they would just change the number they were sending the solicitation from to a different one ..... seems there is a 'no fax' list just like the 'no call' list and we know how well that one works.

I don't know but don't you need a "FAX" number to receive a FAX call? I don't know too many individuals that have a home FAX number

Scammers clone phone numbers for cover. The bots don't know a fax number from a voice number so I am sure they clone fax numbers on occasion. My number got cloned one day. I received hundreds of return calls and texts out of the blue from callers who said they missed my call. Then it stopped and has not happened since.

A landline doesn't know the difference between a fax and a person dialing a phone number.

My dad use to leave his landline plugged into his fax machine. (He would leave his cellphone turned off ) so numerous times I sent him an email to unplug the fax machine.

I have a land line number that and I get my internet from a satellite antenna on my roof. My printer is a printer / fax machine. If I get a call, my answering machine will answer it. After my message plays, it will start with that fax stuff that my Printer/Fax machine will know to pick up. However, my printer/fax has to be turned on to receive a fax. I do not leave that printer turned on at all unless I'm printing something.

You don't need a fax number to receive. You just need a fax machine connected to your land line phone line. The fax will only kick in when it hears that strange fax signal otherwize it will just ring like a regular phone.

have you sent faxes with your machine? Maybe someone is sending you a fax back.

I’ve only heard those noises if I called a fax line, I’ve never received a call from a fax machine.

I haven't faxed anything for over a year. You never heard the fax noises because people calling the number usually know there is a fax machine connected at the other end.

As far as I know FAX advertisements were sent using sequential dialing software, Y'know area code + prefix + 0000, 0001, 0002. They're illegal in Florida and several other states but many can be traced to offshore numbers so reporting them does nothing.

Anyway, my land line is long gone.
