Father's Collection

My father H. A, Lueders was a friend of Bill Ruger's and wrote early books about them., He left my brother and I his collection of Old Models, Blackhawks, Old Army, Single Sixes, you know the drill. My brother left his share to me. I haven't posted in a long time and wonder if the Classifieds are a good place to sell them or would I be better of sending a list of what I have to interested parties. I don't need the money but would like them to go to people who who would like to add to thwie collections. Help an old guy out.

I would say offer them here but wait to split up an alike group, giving preference to someone who might make an offer on the whole group. If unsold after say 5 days as a group take the individual offers? Just a thought, I do appreciate you thought to sell them here. I'm sure you will be able to do well here.

Sounds like a plan but make sure you have a GOOD dealer, who will work with you as they would need to be "packed" properly, and "transferred" as well as shipped and possibly all around the country,,,,,packing, protection, insurance and all that stuff is critical............and of course good descriptions of just what you have, and as noted above possibly as groups or sets, whatever.............Good luck and I recall our friend Jeff M. spoke good of your Dad and my wife, Laura used to be a RCA Field Rep back in the day has all his books...we wish you the best of luck ..............

Right off, I'd love for you to offer them right here! I'm pretty sure I'd be interested in a few. Looking out for you, though, I'd contact Forum member "weaselmeatgravy" who you might already know. He's sold some nice Ruger's both here and on Gunbroker and can offer you some sound advice.

All but the "old Army's" will have to be shipped by a dealer. So, the best way to do that is take them to a dealer willing to ship them for you. The black powder "old Army's" can be sent directly to the buyer as the feds do not consider them to be guns.

I too have all your fathers books in my Ruger Library. Interested to see
what you choose to sell. All good advice above, I would only add for you to first
determine the collection value, take good pictures to go along with the detailEd description and then as Rugerguy said, find a good FFL to handle all the details (packing-shipping-insurance & possible returns). With new firearm shipping changes being put on UPS, USPS, FEDEX, I would only ship every firearm, through an FFL. Best of luck.

Sorry for the loss of your Dad. My Dad passed in 2014 and I was tasked with selling his "collection". I used the classifieds here and on 24 Hour Campfire. I also did a gun show or two every year and finally sold the last piece last September. I kept his #3 45/70 since he always told me that it was his favorite rifle. It's a heart wrenching experience selling off the stuff that brought Dad so much joy. None of the other family members are interested in guns so they had to go. Again sorry for your loss.

I have several (I think three) editions of Hugo's book. They were helpful when I first started collecting and then became collectible themselves. They are a fun look back to understand how far the collector's knowledge base has come in the past 40 or so years. I only started collecting 25 years ago when my own father passed and I ended up with his small collection, which has grown. Best of luck to you, and let me know if I can help.
