There have been some derisive post hereabouts concerning Facebook, and I have yet to see any basis, from my stand point at least, for such rancor.

Last night I was on the Single Actions page and recognized a familiar name. I contacted that person, and sure enough, it was that of a long-ago fellow employee. He was a field superintendent with the engineering/construction I worked with for many, many years. He lives out in New Mexico, is fond of older cartridges guns, both rifles and revolvers. And I got his 'phone number and we chatted for maybe half hour about guns, shooting, and "the old days."

As for me, I'll continue to enjoy conversations on Facebook.

I glad it works for you Bob but for me, I stay totally away unless I want to sell something like a set of wheels then I use FB Marketplace under my wife’s account. If I haven’t kept in touch with folks from long ago then I just figure life goes on and don’t worry about it. Just my take on such things.

I think that virtually all of the "social media" applications are for those that want/need
that type of interaction.

I have a friend in Western CO that uses it to share pictures with family and friends.
Good for him. I just hope he uses discretion with those pictures. - - - I wanted to
find some friends from a long time back and my daughter said that at least one of
the people I was looking for was on FB. Found him and several others I knew.
It then started a mini barrage of things I had no use for. Deleted my login - - - and
that took over a month.

I also have a twitter log-in. I use that to track what our President says (minus the
items the twitts dislike). I still find it problematical that they can/do edit/delete posts
THEY do not like, regardless of content. - - - MY problem, and I accept it.

IMO, a FAR larger problem are the texts. I really don't think anyone has an accurate
count of the people killed or maimed by idiots driving while texting. Once again,
IMO, even one is excessive, yet it is WAY beyond that.

Why not have the phone manufacturers set an arbitrary(?) limit that if you are
moving at over five MPH, text and FB and twitter, and others, are disabled until
you come to a stop . . . IF you are not with 911 or the local LE.

Now back to the thread subject.

Well, guess I'm still in the dark. I see no difference in Facebook pages and this forum. Both have discussions and photos of guns, ammunition, shooting, and collecting as well as reloading advice and general gun information.

The difference between FB and rugerforum is how FB can and will use your information. They track what you write and sell that information.

It’s all about user data and who can control it. An example. NBC came out with a new video service called “Peacock.” It is NOT currently available if you use certain plug in devices on your television, like the Amazon Fire stick. Why? Because Amazon and NBC couldn’t come to an agreement about who gets access to the users data. i.e: who watches what.

Well yes, and photos are another thing. Any photo you post on FB, they own the rights to it and can use it however they want.

I use Facebook all the time, and for the most part it has been a positive experience. Through this social medium I have located and re-connected with old friends that I have not seen in close to 60 years. Other uses have been of great practical value as well, such as my being part of a Facebook group that are owners of the particular travel trailer than I own. Often, far from home and without an RV dealer nearby, the Facebook community has been able to come up with solutions for trip-ruining problems that have arisen. Without Facebook I would have been in big trouble on some of these issues.

On the other hand, just yesterday I commented on a regional motorcycle group that I had been participating in. I had seen a group of very young kids riding non-street legal dirt bikes and ATV's on a busy public road. I merely noted what I had seen and expressed concern for the safety of some of these kids riding in the midst of moderately heavy and fast traffic. I was flamed by dozens of nasty remarks, the least of which calling me a "Karen", some comments threatening me (from "brave" anonymous armchair bikers) and lots of just vile, stupid comments saying I should have just ignored these kids who were having fun with their bikes. It was annoying enough that I just deleted myself from this group, which was of no special value to me anyway.

I also have had numerous family members, and some old friends "unfriend" me because like others on the Left of the political spectrum, they cannot tolerate seeing opinions and ideas which differ from the radical Left agenda. I must admit that I have enjoyed poking these snowflakes and skewering their stupidity and conformity.

So overall, Facebook is both useful and annoying, good and bad, but for now I am staying with it.

Well obviously commenting about the non-street legal dirt bike and ATV riders in traffic is racist, so shame on you.
Enjoying poking fun at snowflakes sounds like a good reason to stay around. :)

I like FB. I've been able to reconnect with old friends from high school (the ones that were good friends then) and family that live in far away states. Admittedly FB is aggravating at times because I'm outspoken in matters of politics and end up in FB jail about every 6 months or so.

The one thing that I dislike is FB's prohibition of gun/ammo/parts sales.

I've never been able to figure out what Facebook offers that I can't do by e-mail - and, being a cranky old fart, I get my undies in a bunch over their policies. As a result, I have not, and never will, have anything to do with it. YMMV

Breitbart and Fox are reporting that Facebook has censored President Trump's Fox News interview.

They are less than friendly to conservatives.

I do not have a Facebook account, there are people I would like to reconnect with but I enjoy my privacy very much. Here people only have to reveal what they want to reveal.
