Extra parts

Last weekend I took my SR-22 apart to install a new bolt handle and big head safety. I put it back together again last night, and when I was finished, this pin was still in the parts tray:

The exploded diagram of the action has one pin that looks like it might be that size - the "Safety Detent Plunger" but I used the new safety to push the factory safety out of the trigger group and, as far as I know the detent never left the housing.

The action seems to work properly. I can cock it, lock the bolt back and get it to release, move the safety on and off (it feels right and locks the trigger properly when set) and "fire" it. All normal functions seem to be working.

The gun has a Timney trigger, so I know the pin is not the pivot for the trigger and disconnector. They're captive in the trigger housing.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It looks like the trigger return plunger. It is in the housing behind the factory trigger with a spring behind it. You said you took the factory trigger out and replaced it though so I am not sure.

Firing pin stop pin is my bet. Look closely at the bolt with it out of the gun.

If it is the firing pin stop and you have dry fired your gun with it out, check your chamber. I will be dented and may be damaged depending on how many times you dry fired it......................

I'll check the firing pin retainer this evening.

Well, the firing pin "stop" is a roll pin, about 3/4" in length

Happily, it's solidly in the bolt and the breech face is clean.

Now, if I could only find a place for this pin...

After disassembling my carbine I measured every pin in it and the only one even close that length is the trigger return plunger and it is not shaped like the one you show. Ever other pin is an inch or better. PLEASE let us know where it finally decides to be installed. :?

The part wasn't 'extra' when he disassembled it, it showed up on reassembly. He didn't have a spare part initially. :lol:

Just figured that it could have been in the package and he didn't notice it.I checked the exploded parts schematic and didn't see anything that looked like that pin. Was just a thought.

If that is the case then SOMETHING is missing a part somewhere. :lol: :lol:

I vote with the slave pin for reinstalling the trigger.There aint no such part in the blow up.
