Easter Greeting............

I don't remember when I first read about the Easter greeting among early Christians. But on Resurrection Sunday in the First Century, Christians would greet one another with "He is risen," and the response would be "He is risen, indeed!"

A few years ago, when our new pastor came to our church, I greeted him one Easter Sunday in such a way, but he was not aware of the response. So, for the past several Easters, I've sort of pushed that practice.

Yesterday morning, after the first choir opening, the music director turned to the congregation and said, "He is risen." And the whole congregation responded "He is risen, indeed!"

The Greek Orthodox church still uses the greeting.

"Christos Anesti!" He is risen!
"Alithos Anesti!" Truly He is risen"

My wife is Greek Orthodox. Next weekend we will be celebrating Orthodox Easter with her family in Central California.

I normally post this on Easter but I'm still recovering from the computer crash and couldn't lay my digital fingers on it until today.
