Early Spring

Last Friday night we had several inches of fresh snow, pond in my backyard was still covered with thinning ice. Last several days have been in the 50's approaching 60. Yesterday my Lab tried to step onto the ice and fell in at the edge. This morning the ice was all gone and I saw a pair of wood ducks out there swimming. Now at mid afternoon my Lab comes into the house with her first tick of the year walking on her back. The last and best sign of Spring was walking around my bee hives and seeing bees going in with pollen on their back legs. We have survived another winter! Karl :lol:

First 'outing' for me in a while. 70 degrees! Sat on my front porch with my shirt off and let 'ole sol' beat down on me. Perhaps I can put the snowblower to bed this weekend.

Warm and raining like the dickens here. The clover is blooming and the Oak trees are already budded. First winter I can remember that we didn't get one flake of snow. Heck it only dropped below freezing maybe 10 times and never below 20. What a weird winter.

It is spring here in the Colorado Rockies. I know because we are getting calves on the ground since the first one dropped Feb 28. The Spring runoff from snow melt has not started yet so the creeks and rivers here are not up from winter levels. I expect to see run0ff start within a week or so, certainly before the end of March as usual. Our snow pack is about normal, perhaps just a little above, for this time of year, compared to past years so we should have a good irrigation season all summer.

Things are running about 3 weeks early here. Crocus bloomed over a week ago, daffodils are almost past prime. Bradford pear trees have set leaf and bloom. Daytime highs in the 60's and 70's for a week. Robins and cardinals in the driveway. I just hope we don't get a freeze that kills the peach blossoms, like last year.

I am amazed that peaches would ever survive that far north. I might get one or two years out of 5 where a late freeze doesn't take out the blossoms. A guy just around the corner from us planted a very large orchard of appx. 200 trees and none are living today. The drought/late freezes and heat killed them all. Not a good fruit to try around here. Hopefully we will get some this year but who knows?

It feels good to be enjoying the weather rather than complaining about it. I worked up a sweat doing doing some work outside only wearing a t shirt yesterday. That sun sure felt good.

Same here, trees in bloom, leaves coming out. We've been having some wind and rain off and on but the temps are in the 60s in the daytime most of the time now. I was out on the motor scooter (650cc) this afternoon, lovely riding weather.
