I have an ignorant question;

I just picked up an early (1966) 10/22 international today that did not come with the scope rail. I have a later model scope rail that aligns properly, but if the gun came with a different or better scope rail, it would be nice to find one.

Does anyone know if the early models had a superior scope rail? Or were they all basically the same?

One other question.. Other than the aftermarket Weaver or Volguartsen rails, is there any other that manufacturers that make a high quality mount that will keep with the classic lines of a mannlicher 10/22?

Any information would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks

The original scope rails were made for "Tip-Off" rings and would not accept Weaver-style rings like the current rail.

It simply had grooves down each side just like many other rimfires of the day that had 3/8" grooved receivers.

Lots of weaver and picatiny style rail options. HERE are a few. I was never a big fan of the tip off style mounts. Dont have a choice on my remington pump action though since its built into the receiver.

Other than perhaps a bit, very small bit, cleaner finish, the $$ ones aren't much better than the factory ones. If budget requires some thriftiness, stick with the factory one. Chances are you'll never notice the difference.

YESSIR< the newer style OEMs are far superior to the "old model" grooved aluminum piece of bar stock....BY FAR :wink:
have no clue why it took them so long to figure that one out......we've been changing them to the weaver style since the early 70's , year after year after year, for folks............... :roll:

the ONLY reason had to be to cater to them small, 3/4inch cheapie scopes with 'tip off' rings 'attached to them?? 8)
