Dying breed

I met a man today that carried an M-1 in the Battle of Chosin Reservoir. Not too many of that breed left.

Lost my father two years ago, he was one of the Chosin Few... in fact his company, recon, was the last to come out. A forgotten time... interesting that the Marine Corps Museum gives the Chosin Reservoir as the corps greatest and most decisive battle they ever fought and few folks even know about it. The book I gave away as a karma a while back states that the marine and other allies casualties were just under 5,ooo the best estimate that can be given for Chinese and North Korean is some where in the neighborhood of 42,000. Most of that was face to face... I know it was years ago, but is one of the reasons I dislike anything Chinese .... any government that would just throw men away like that I can't have any respect for. When my father landed at Inchon he was the BAR man... after about a month they issued him an '03 Springfield with a scope....... I still have the Smith and Weson 38 he carried strapped to his chest while in Korea... I'm planning to send it to the museum at Quantico.

im visiting my uncle in mo right now who was an island hopping Seabee. he carried a m1 carbine on his bulldozer.

Many years ago my uncle attended a Seabee convention in Dallas. He had some photos of some dead Japs some were after they were done in by the natives. A lot carbines in there.
I did not see any prisoners

I won the book in the Karma, read it from cover to cover and then put it back out on a karma; I haven't seen it since.

American Experience on PBS is presenting The Chosin ... SCETV is showing it this Tuesday at 9:00, don't know when it would be on for other public TV stations.
