Dragoon frame on an ROA

What is involved in fitting a SBH Dragoon or Hunter style grip frame to an Old Army revolver?
Any grip frames to be had would be of the new style lock work trigger return spring and not the old style that the Old Army uses.
I would like to convert my pair of 7.5" ROAs over to dragroon style frames.

Where you mention "Hunter GF" are you doing Blue or Stainless?

If Blue;
Be patient and find yourself some OM Dragoon/ Super Blackhawk frames,,, cost ~$100 ea +/- $30

-OR-

If Blue or Stainless;
Buy NM SBH Dragoon or Hunter style grip frame and make the "flatgate OM Trigger Spring Block/ New Model Grip Frame Adaptor" ... it's easy enough.

It has been mentioned by some that making them out of Steel or Stainless can be somewhat of a challenge with homeboy shop tools. :wink:

You will also want to find OM Super Trigger to fit the wide opening that either GF will have. ~$50 +/- $10 ... or I think Clements makes these.

Here are a few I have done, if you get lucky no fitting required. These all fit great with no fitting required.

You will want to find some wide triggers to go along with the dragoon frames.

These are all old model frames, the one on the SS gun is steel in the white.

I got every one of these from this site.

Just post "WTB Old Model Super Blackhawk Grip Frame" in the classified section.

Then keep bumping it to keep it on the first page for best exposure.

Someone will get tired of seeing your ad and sell you one :lol:

It all depends on one's personal opinion on exactly what "fitting" means...

I strive for a "Freedom Arms" fit. I don't always get there, but it makes for a good challenge.

Let me change it to "functional" fit. :lol:

It is hard to get "Freedom Arms" fit with used parts and my basic smithing skills and knowledge.

Next time I am in Star Valley, I will have to look you up for some lessons.

You will probably come out a WHOLE lot cheaper geting new model frames and make the Flatgate "Thingie" Both type frames are hard to come by :wink:
