Not that unusual. I got a draft notice in '66 while in Vietnam. I'd been in the Corps since '63. I wasn't the only one, and we had some fun burning them. Burrow crats are fun. :wink:

Hi,

My late neighbor was a Navy vet, went to work as an air traffic controller, and retired from that job, at age 55.

One day he was telling me about a letter he'd received from the Navy. They'd "noticed" he'd served before, and thought his skills as an ATC would be useful to the Navy. Was he interested in reenlising? He wrote back he was most certainly interested in reenlisting, but felt it only fair to advise them that (by this time) he was 74 years old!

"And you know what, I never even received a 'Thank you for your interest' letter after that," he said. He took that to mean they didn't want him?

Our taxpayer dollars are certainly being used wisely, aren't they?

While I was stationed in Korea, I got a notice that I had been selected for Jury Duty in Orange County, CA. I went to the Battery commander and told him I was MORE THAN WILLING to go serve on a jury.
I could hear him laughing all the way back to the Commo shop !! :roll: :roll: :roll: :roll: :wink:

I "outsmarted" them by enlisting. Most of the guys in our site o/s had been drafted and signed-on for another year to get the school/mos. They got "pro pay" for each month of their 3rd yrs as it was considered one yr into a 2nd term...extra $50/month.

I knew a guy who was drafted into the Marines in '68 and did not go the Vietnam. He served-out as an arty instructor in CA. What were the odds?

What is sad is the fact they spent MONEY to send out those notices! Taxpayer money.

What is even sadder is that some PERSON is in charge, of doing some kind of research, to get the name and addresses to send the notices TO....and they get paid to do it.
