A good friend of mine (& his wife.) from High School stayed with us out here in the middle of Indiana farm country...Which I had insisted upon, this past week while in the area for his Mother's funeral.
He grew up around here, but as he's an chemist by profession, they have typically lived in cities and suburbs, as his job has required, throughout the USA over the past several decades now.
The other morning, he made the comment to me "Doesn't that 🤬 rooster of yours EVER STFU?!
To which I replied "What rooster?" 🤔

Made me think of this scene from The Blues Brothers...😁

My father repaired clocks as a hobby. We’d get similar comments about clock noise from guests, with the same response from us. Six to eight clocks chiming and we’d still never know the time.

I still have one. I’d love to know what time it is when I wake up in the middle of the night, but it is always on a single chime. 😆

Don't EVER get a peacock!! if your neighbor does.....well, recon mission in the making.
They have a call that can be heard over 1 mile. Literally.
I forget which one, but a Chinese emeperor was paranoid from constant assassination attempts. So much so that he did away with his personal security at night while he slept.
He surrounded his palace with peacocks because it is impossible to sneak up on them. They alarm at every darned sound.

FIL has had some health issues lately & wife has stayed at his house in town for a few days.

Says she can't sleep, too many lights & noise. I told her, welcome to town life.

My cousin had a pet Guinea pig who would whistle every time the refrigerator door was opened because it thought it was going to get a piece of apple or some lettuce.

One morning about 3am my uncle came home drunk from stopping at a bar at 11pm when he got out of work. He opened the refrigerator for some reason and the Guinea pig heard the door. It started whistling and woke up my aunt.

The fallout from that fight lasted for quite awhile and my uncle said that it was a stool pigeon instead of a Guinea pig because it got him caught.

My dogs are pretty smart. Anyone coming close to my front door or the garage causes both dogs to start barking like crazy, loud enough to wake the dead. But other than that they sleep the night through without making a sound. They even understand to be quiet when a squirrel runs across the roof, and most of the time even when a bird crashes into a window with a thud.

Whenever I travel and stay at a motel I try to get a room as far from the elevator as possible because the sound of that elevator working will wake me up every time.
