I have been searching high and low for a decent looking dovetail sight to put on a Vaquero. Other than the custom shops there doesn't seem to be alot of options available. Does anyone have some ideas?

Groo here
Go to Freedom Arms they have a sight used as an option on there fixed
sight models that you can buy..
different hights set screw and under $40...

XS offers some front sights that look like they might possibly work for this project. They fit a .375 dovetail and are a simple blade with a vertical .040 white line in the face of the sight blade - the blade is listed as .100 wide and can be had in various heights - .050 steps from .250 to .600. Brownells list them at $30 each.

I have been considering doing this to a Ruger Mini Vaquero in 32 H&R - I thought it would help me get the gun to shoot to point of aim without trying to tighten or loosen the barrel.

I would be interested in results if you get it done.

I forgot about the FA sight, it just looks a little bulky. I looked at the XS sights on Brownells site. I don't really care for the stripe, but those could work. Seems to be about the best option so far. Somebody, somewhere has to make a simple dovetail sight that doesn't cost an arm and leg.

How about skinnersights.com ? Reasonable price and there should be enough metal to work it down to where you want it.

I would like to find a source for these, beside the Colt custom shop.

Beautiful gun, BTW.
I would like to have a Colt one day but I would have to sell about five of my Rugers to get it.
Why aren't there bailouts for shooters?

I have been searching for the same thing a nice dovetail front sight for my Vaquaros...I have come to the conclusion that I will bite the bullet and send my gun off the Clements Custom guns and have it done for $100. at the same time I will have a trigger job done and the forcing cone reamed more bucks I know, but at least it will be done right and will look good...good luck with your search
