super redhawk 44 mag. when you pull the hammer back to cock is fine, but when you pull the trigger hammer comes back about 1/4 of the way to hard stop. any ideas?

Durabledan, Welcome to the forum! First question to you: Did you have the gun apart and do anything to it or has this "problem" just come up suddenly? One of the first things I would look at is the hammer dog operation. It sounds like the trigger extension that lifts the hammer dog is jamming up somehow. Take the hammer out and check for damage and free movement of the hammer dog, hammer dog plunger and spring. look for burrs and debris that could be impeding trigger or hammer movement. Check these things out and then give us a report!.....................Dick

Talked to the fellow I bought it from and he had taken the revolver apart for cleaning just prior to sale. Shame on me for not trying double action. I only cocked hammer for single action, which was fine.
All is not lost as I went to Ruger web site and found diassemble/reassembly video. Works fine now that it is back together properly.
Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

This is the pistol that "had" a problem. The scope is a Bushnell 2 x 6
The overall condition is excellent and does not appear to have had much use.

dan, Glad you got it worked out. I suspected "someone" had that gun apart. You have got yourself a fine deer and hog hunter. Enjoy!........................Dick
