As some of you may recall I posted about an old gal that came to stay at the cabin. Her name was Dorothy..
Well, this is a bit of an update on her..
You see, she only had a vintage coat to wear, and it very soon became unserviceable. So I set out to sew her up a new one.....
Dorothy was also complaining that she didn't have much to do and was feeling a bit under appreciated. One day, my dogs and I made a late season walk into higher country, looking for emptier ground. On the way back to the cabin, they got distracted and fell behind.
As short time later they both arrived.. but not in the same condition as they left. It appeared they had run into the only creature that can truly kick a Karelians butt!... The lowly porcupine!!
After much work, strain and sweat, the quills were removed. That is when Dorothy made a suggestion. That she start coming along to take care of any nefarious porcupines that come our way.
That sounded good to me, so we shook hands on the deal.
Dorothy is now the official porcupine buster, for the homestead....
She has her fancy new dud's and a job description to boot...

She won't win any beauty contests, but she will do just fine trampin through the brush... I just can't bring myself to throw a $3.00, 44 mag bullet at a porcupine, and the finish won't be on that holster long!
I figured better take a pic while it was worth takin a pic!

I'll never be John Bianchi.......... His holsters is gorgeous.... I can get by though I guess..

Thanks for the compliments..

You are much too hard on your handiwork, I believe the holster is a beautiful piece of work. As for the revolver... beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I see a tool that has been used and depended on. First dog that doesn't get a nose full of porcupine needles will find it quite attractive.

However, in the spirit of loving Christian co-operation, if you feel life is too short to put up with an ugly gun let me know and and soon as planting is finished Dave and I will come and take it off your hands. I plan to live forever. :)

Me too.... I'm quite sure I'm gonna live a long life filled with phrases like, "you gotta be kidding!", "Oh now what!", "Oh Sh** hold on!!".......
Somebodies gotta carry those big packs up those hills in the rain... They aint gonna get up there by themselves.....

p.s. It looks like Dorothy may have her first gig soon. My dogs have had 2 porcupine encounters in a particular area this spring. I just heard from a future neighbor that while he was up checking on his place, his dogs got into a really bad encounter with a porcupine in the same area. To the point one of the dogs needed to be put down...
Having had a really bad experience with my male getting into it with a pine, and knowing that male dog, and how aggressive he is I'm sure it was just as bad or worse than it was described.
Often, there is no way to really get help out there. You just can't jump into the car and go where ever. A canoe ride out with dogs in that condition would have been near suicidal. There are often no other people up there than just yourself.
I don't hate porcupines, but if I have to choose between them and the safety and well being of my dogs, well then that is just the tough thing I have to do...
I don't worry about my dogs and moose, or bears, or anything like that... but those dang porcupines...
